Ettringite

The specimen is made up of ettringite deposited onto a thin host country rock matrix. The ettringite are a bright lemon-yellow colour with good gemmy crystals. The ettringite are short stubby crystals up to 0.6cm.

Hydroxyapophyllite-(k) Cluster

Hydroxyapophyllite was fairly common at the Kalahari Manganese Fields, these days to find good undamaged ones is not so easy. This specimen is made up of a few high lustre cubic crystals which have intergrown with one another but most prominent is the main high luster crystal which measures 3cm. Overall in very good condition with a light peachy brown colour.

Reverse Amethyst Quartz Scepter

The specimen has a rather unique form and habit. The main pair of quartz crystals comes off the matrix with the smaller crystal having a reverse termination. The larger crystal has a standard hexagonal point. The second reverse scepter, however, is finished in a tabular amethyst termination. To be noted is a small moving gas bubble included in the scepter crystal.

Sphenoidal Manganite & Sturmanite

The specimen has sturmanite and manganite deposited onto a matrix that is flat and lamellar. The manganite is in a sphenoidal form with a high metallic luster. This form of manganite was never common. The sturmanite has a deep amber brown colour and not all the crystals are perfect. The largest manganite measures 0.5cm across.

Olmiite, Calcite on Matrix

A lovely specimen here which is made up of calcite and olmiite on a flat planar host matrix. The olmiite crystal measures 1.3cm and is with a lovely lustre.

Quartz (Japan-law-twin)

The specimen is a crystal formed following the Japanese law twin habit. These are from a very recent find which I was fortunate enough to acquire a few of. The crystal is beveled from both flat sides towards a single line edge. One could describe the shape as heart-shaped. The clear colour is slightly stained by limonite. The twinning line is very clear.

Ettringite on Matrix

A very richly coloured specimen here which is made up of ettringite deposited onto a rectangular and relatively thick in comparison host matrix. The ettringite are a lovely bright lemon yellow colour with good lustre and under the microscope one can see the lovely hexagonal crystals which are very glassy. There are a few abrasions here and there.

Rhodochrosite on Matrix

An attractive specimen here which is made up of a deposit of rhodochrosite in a rhombic form which have formed botryoids on a thin host matrix. The rhodochrosite is a light pastel pink colour with rhombic crystals that are slightly saddle like. The rhodochrosite have intergrown with one another to form spheres. Overall an attractive specimen with no major damage to note.
