The Little Baobab’s Big Dream ©️ by MW Schoeman
Once upon a time, in the heart of the African savanna, a tiny baobab seedling sprouted from the dry earth. His name was Bobo, and unlike the towering, ancient baobab trees around him, he was small and fragile.
Bobo admired the great baobabs with their thick trunks and sprawling branches. “One day, I will be as big and wise as them!” he told himself. But as the days passed, Bobo grew impatient. He wanted to be tall right away!
One evening, an old owl named Nia perched on a branch above Bobo. “Why do you look so sad, little one?” she asked.
“I want to be big and strong like the others,” Bobo sighed. “But I’m growing too slowly.”
Nia chuckled. “Do you know why the baobab is called the Tree of Life?”
Bobo shook his tiny leaves.
“Because it takes its time,” Nia explained. “Its roots grow deep, so it can find water in the driest seasons. Its bark thickens, making it strong against the winds. Its hollow trunk becomes a home for animals. And when it is ready, it gives fruit to nourish the world.”
Bobo listened carefully. He realized that growing wasn’t just about getting taller—it was about becoming something special. So, he stopped worrying and focused on stretching his roots deep into the earth, soaking up the sunshine, and enjoying the gentle breeze.
Seasons passed, and Bobo grew strong. Birds nested in his branches, travelers rested in his shade, and animals feasted on his fruit. One day, as he watched a tiny baobab seedling sprout nearby, he smiled.
“Take your time,” he whispered. “The best things grow slowly.”
And so, Bobo, the little baobab, became the mighty Tree of Life, just as he had always dreamed.
