How to Use Facebook Messenger Bots
Facebook Messenger chat bots are a way to communicate with the companies and services that you use directly through Messenger. The goal of chat bots is to minimize the time you would spend waiting on hold or sifting through automated phone menus. By using keywords and short phrases, you can get information and perform tasks all through the Messenger app. For example, you could use bots to purchase clothing, or check the weather by asking the bot questions. Bot selection is limited, but more are being added all the time. You can also interact with bots using the Facebook website.
Part One of Two:
Connecting with a Chat Bot
Update to the latest version of Messenger. Using the Messenger app is the easiest way to connect with chat bots. You'll need the latest updates in order to connect with chat bots using the Messenger app. You can update Messenger using the app store on your device.
Android - Open the Play Store and select "My apps" from the menu. Look for Messenger in the list of apps awaiting updates.
iOS - Open the App Store and tap the "Updates" tab. Update Messenger if it is on the list.
Search for the bot you want to add. At the time of this writing, there are about a dozen bots available, with more being added every day. Chat bots are available for customer service, news, ordering, and more, depending on the company that releases it. For example, you could get news from the CNN bot and order flowers from the 1-800-flowers bot. The process for finding a bot varies depending on your device: [1]
iOS - Start a new message and search for the name of the bot you want to talk to. You'll see bots listed in the "Bots and Businesses" section of the search results. Look for the Messenger icon to see if they are a bot.
Android - Tap the "+" button in the Recents tab and select "Search." Search for the name of the bot you want to talk to. Bots will be listed at the bottom of the results in the "Bots and Businesses" section. Look for the Messenger icon on the profile picture, which indicates that its a bot.
You cannot currently search for a new chatbot to chat with on your Facebook site's Messages section, however you can search through existing conversations with chatbots from within your Facebook messages and restart your chat at a later time.
Scan a Messenger Code to add a bot. Besides searching for bots, you can scan Messenger Codes at businesses to add them to your contacts. This is the equivalent of visiting a m.me/ user page. Only a few businesses are using these codes now, but expect more and more to start soon. [2]
You can scan in codes from the "People" tab. Tap the "Scan Messenger Code" option.
Tap "Get Started" to start a conversation with the bot. Once you've found the bot you want to talk to, you can start a new conversation with it. The "Get Started" button appears when you select a bot and open the conversation window.
Use the Facebook website to connect with chat bots. You can use the Facebook desktop and mobile sites to connect to chat bots as well. You can use this to access the chat bot features without having to use the Messenger app/website:
Open the page for the bot you want to connect with (e.g. facebook.com/cnn ) in your desktop or mobile browser.
Click or tap the "Message" link in the "About" section of the page. If you don't see this link, the company does not have a bot available.
Click "Get Started". Note: if you don't see this at the bottom of the message window, the company/product is not using a bot and the messages you type in will simply go to their inbox
Start chatting with the bot. Click or tap the "Get Started" link in the chat to see some basic commands. You can find all of your previous conversations with bots in the Messages section of the Facebook bots.

5 Legitimate Ways to Make 🤑Money at Home

So you need a way to make money from home. Hey, join the crowd. Nearly 4 million Americans are working from home these days. That’s more than the population of Oregon, Utah or Iowa.

In other words, there’s an invisible army of us clocking in and sitting down at our keyboards at home. A 2015 Gallup poll found that 37% of Americans have telecommuted in their careers — four times as many as in 1995.
Problem is, we all know the internet is chock full of work-from-home scams. So many ripoffs! Seriously, it’s like the Wild West out there, except there’s no Lone Ranger to put things right.

When you’re working from home, you’re truly on your own. You’ve got to look out for yourself, ’cause no one else will.
How to Make Money From Home
With that in mind, we’re trying to do you a solid.
We’ve scoured through thousands of different ideas to find you 32 unique ways to make money from home. I guarantee there are some in here you’ve never heard of.
The important thing is: These methods are all road-tested. These are all ideas we’ve tried before, so we know they’re real and that you’ll really get paid.
Here are 5 legitimate ways to make money from home:

1. Get Paid to Give Your Opinion
Surveys aren’t the best way to make money fast. But there’s a certain appeal to clicking a few buttons and earning money when you’d otherwise be doing nothing. Here’s our recommendation: Sign up for these legitimate survey sites all at once. Chances are, you’ll qualify for at least one or two surveys on each site a month, and the rewards will add up.
Here are some of our favorite paid survey sites:
You might recognize the Ipsos Panel name because it’s the same company that does most of the political polling during elections. Some of the top-end surveys can pay up to $95, but those are rare and can take awhile to complete. Most surveys pay a buck or two and only take 10 to 15 minutes.
PointClub is awesome because you’ll get points for every single survey you take — guaranteed. Plus, the company gives you $5 just for signing up! Once you accrue enough of them, you can redeem those points for gift cards to a ton of useful vendors like Walmart, Amazon and PayPal.

2. Get $5 From Stash to Start Saving
It’s no brilliant secret that investing can be a smart way to make money.
Sometimes, though, it feels restricted to a few wealthy elite.
But Stash is different. This app lets you start investing with as little as $5 and for just a $1 monthly fee for balances under $5,000.
Stash curates investments from professional fund managers and investors and lets you choose where to put your money.
But it leaves the complicated investment terms out of it. You just choose from a set of simple portfolios reflecting your beliefs, interests and goals.
Bonus: Right now, The Penny Hoarder is teaming up with Stash to fund your first investment — so you’ll get an extra $5 bonus to get started.

3. Invest in Real Estate (You Don’t Have to Be Rich)

Want to try real-estate investing without playing landlord? We found a company that helps you do just that.
Oh, and you don’t have to have hundreds of thousands of dollars, either. You can get started with a minimum investment of just $500. A company called Fundrise does all the heavy lifting for you.
Through the Fundrise Starter Portfolio , your money will be split into two portfolios that support private real estate around the United States.
This isn’t an obscure investment, though. You can see exactly which properties are included in your portfolios — like a set of townhomes in Snoqualmie, Washington, or an apartment building in Charlotte, North Carolina.
You can earn money through quarterly dividend payments and potential appreciation in the value of your shares, just like a stock. Cash flow typically comes from interest payments and property income (e.g. rent).
(But remember: Investments come with risk. While Fundrise has paid distributions every quarter since at least Q2 2016, dividend and principal payments are never guaranteed.)
You’ll pay a 0.85% annual asset management fee and a 0.15% annual investment advisory fee.
Interested? Get started with Fundrise here.

4. Earn Cash Back on Your Grocery Run
Tina Russell/The Penny Hoarder
Ibotta is an easy-to-use cash-back app that’s partnered with more than 50 retailers, just about anywhere you’d do any kind of shopping.
Before heading to the store, search for items on your shopping list within the app. Strawberries? Check. An ear of corn? Check. Add each cash-back opportunity to your list in the app.
Then shop.
When you get home, snap a photo of your receipt and scan the items’ barcodes.
Bam. Cash back.
Some cash-back opportunities we’ve seen include:
25 cents back for any item
25 cents back on strawberries
50 cents back on frozen fruit snacks
$1 back on a box of tea
$5 back on a case of Shiner Bock beer
Notice a lot of those aren’t tied to a brand — just shop for the staples on your list, and earn cash back!
Ibotta is free to download . Plus, you’ll get a $10 sign-up bonus after uploading your first receipt.

5. Stop Deleting Your Emails
It turns out deleting your emails could be costing you serious money. Intrigued?
One of our secret weapons is called
Paribus — a tool that gets you money back for your online purchases. It’s free to sign up, and once you do, it will scan your email archives for any receipts. If it discovers you’ve purchased something from one of its monitored retailers, it will track the item’s price and help you get a refund anytime there’s a price drop.
Plus, if your guaranteed shipment shows up late, Paribus will help you get money back for what you paid for shipping.

2. Decide in advance what is being traded and what the time frame is for trade
Before you drive off with your new treasure or use a barter service, be sure you have worked out exactly what is due to both parties. If the exchange isn’t happening fully at the same time, be sure you know when and where the final exchange is to take place. Be clear so there is no chance anyone will be disappointed.

Bartering 101: How To Trade For Things You Need
Bartering can be a great way to get something you need and build up a community at the same time. For bartering to be successful, keep these simple guidelines in mind.

Last fall, a friend of mine traded a large empty tank that was designed for water storage. He was planning to complete a project with it that never got started and his wife said it had to go. He traded that tank to a local farmer for maple syrup this spring. The farmer needed it to collect the sap to make syrup.
The two men agreed on an amount of value, my friend dropped off the tank. A few weeks ago, he and the farmer met as agreed and now my friend is enjoying fresh maple syrup on his flapjacks.
Bartering can be a great way to get something you need and build up a community at the same time. For bartering to be successful, keep these simple guidelines in mind:
1. Know the value of your trade
No matter if you interested in trading a service or goods, you need to know the value of what you have and what you are asking for. If what you are offering is more or less than what the other person is offering, then you need to negotiate. You can negotiate more trade items or cash, but having an understanding of the worth of your offer is important. You can check online stores or catalogs to compare prices on new or like new items, or search Craigslist or eBay for pre-owned item listings.
Two artists I know exchanged goods – one who made wooden cutting boards, the other a potter – agreed to exchange goods based on the retail prices of their work. They both got nice gifts for their spouses and now pass customers back and forth as well.
