As a cabbage farmer, you know how devastating black rot and soft rot can be. Don't let these diseases ruin your crop! Here's how to identify them:

⚫️BLACK Rot:
- V-shaped yellowing leaves
- Dark, wedge-shaped lesions on veins
- Often starts at the outer leaves

⚪️SOFT Rot:
- Mushy, water-soaked lesions
- Foul odor
- Usually affects the head of the cabbage

CABBAGE GROWING TIPS

Spacing

Cabbage, like any plant, requires sufficient space to flourish. Each variety may differ slightly, but a general rule that I always follow is to space cabbage plants about 45-60 centimeters apart. Here are some guidelines for successful cabbage growth:

1. Flat land
When growing your cabbages on flat land:
- You can space them at 45 cm within the line and 50 cm between
lines.
- After 4 lines, leave 50 cm for the pathway.
- This method is best in dry times and very economical with land, giving us a population of about 35,500 heads per hectare.

2. Ridges
- When you decide to plant your cabbage in ridges, you can space them at 80-90 cm apart and 40-45 cm within.
- This is most recommended in rainy seasons as they provide better drainage.
- This will give us a population of around 30,000 heads per hectare.
When spacing your cabbage plants, it's essential to provide enough room for healthy growth. This spacing will allow the cabbages to mature into full heads without being cramped, ensuring healthy growth and preventing disease and pests.
