الطحالب موجودة على الأرض منذ أكثر من 450 مليون سنة. ليس لها أزهار، ولا بذور، ولا حتى جذور حقيقية مثل معظم النباتات.
تمتص الماء مثل الإسفنجة، وتوفر موطناً صغيراً للحشرات والكائنات الدقيقة.
وفي التيراريوم المغلق، الطحالب ليست مجرد زينة، بل تساعد على الحفاظ على الرطوبة، وتحمي التربة، وتجعل النظام البيئي أكثر توازناً وجمالاً.
قطعة صغيرة من الطحلب يمكن أن تغيّر شكل وصحة التيراريوم بالكامل.
