We are looking for the same high standards when distributing a product. We're ourselves profession

al musicians and only distribute products which we either develop and manufacture ourselves, co-develop in partnership or use ourselves as musicians. I started as an AMT customer because I'm a bit of a tech geek and always looking for the best equipment to amplify or record the sound of my trumpet as pure as possible. A microphone is the most important part in this chain and over the years I developed a close relationship with Marty Paglione and Ron Oswanski from AMT. Two very knowledgable guys and great musicians as well. As a result Hacklmusic was the first company who brought AMT to continental Europe as distributors and we continue to offer customized services guiding all our customers to find the best microphone fit. I have a lot of experience with live gigs and festivals (running my own Outreach Festival which is live recorded by major radio stations and doing the international touring circuit). I'm also fortunate enough to work with top engineers in leading studios ( Avatar Studios, MSR Studios, Sterling Sound with engineers Joe Ferla, James Farber, Alex Venguer, Greg Calbi)
You learn a lot working with people like that and AMT is without a doubt my favorite clip on > small condenser mic. The only ones I know of to be able to compete with the legendary big boys studio mics. 🎵 Today, we have the pleasure of learning from Peter Oswald, a master of commercial music trumpet playing. His Hybrass Music Festival showcases his talents in chamber music. With his well-structured practice method, you will elevate your brass playing in no time. Feel free to ask Peter about specific things you want to work on—he's got tons of trumpet knowledge and method books!

🎵 Wednesday practice together with me at our group lesson. The initial 45 minutes will be dedicated to technical exercises for brass instruments. We'll delve into foundational exercises that comprehensively address various aspects of brass playing. Whether you're a seasoned player or a newcomer, these exercises are customizable to your skill level. We may revisit some exercises for those who are new, ensuring everyone is on the same page.

In the second 45 minutes we'll explore a new improvisation concept. We use three stages :

1. **Feel Good and Get Inspired**: We choose a great solo by a legend and play small parts of it. This helps us learn the artist's phrasing and style ( his/her musical DNA) without becoming copycats.

2. **Combine Creativity and Control**: We play our own notes/phrases during the rests, gradually incorporating more of our own ideas while always knowing the original phrase and chords. Coming back to it now and then. This builds both creativity and control.

3. **Apply and Adapt**: We adapt the phrase to fit another tune, incorporating theory like scales. This is advanced, but we start simple within a complex concept and let it grow.

We will work on Dexter Gordon solo over "Airegin" because it's a masterpiece with great lines, even when slowed down. He plays at the beginning only scale notes and it sounds great. No filler notes, just pure music.

Markus emphasizes tongue positioning and his unique technique, which makes brass playing very efficient. If you follow his advice, you can improve your range and endurance without spending more time practicing. With his technique, the tongue becomes the centerpiece of the attack, perfectly guiding the air to the lips and developing proper attacks with minimal motion. As principal trumpeter in the Magdeburg Philharmonic and as soloist, Markus proves daily that his approach works.

The first 45 minutes of my group lesson are focused on effective practice strategies based on my timed templates. In the second part of the group lesson, we will explore improvisation for all instruments. You are welcome to join either one or both segments. From using my 15 variations of playing around chord notes, to incorporating the unique and very musical approach of Barry Harris, to how to use the hexatonic augmented scale, to the inside to outside use of the pentatonic scale in various ways. This will help you develop your own voice as an improviser. From a beginner to a master, it's always about the ears, muscle memory and how to communicate with the rhythm section. Playing a great solo is also about phrasing and rhythmic placement and what you do in between notes.

Peter, Markus, and I are connected by playing the great trumpets and flügelhorns my father builds now for over 70 years. Test and check out his amazing horns that are at the peak of his mastery. Every day, he comes up with new ideas in his beloved workshop.

The most important principle for me is that emotions make habits, not repetitions. This should be straightforward to implement, as we are dealing with music that touches our emotions deeply. I presume that we all began playing music out of love and it evoked emotions within us. Whenever we are practicing, this should be at the core. Don't get bogged down in the technical jargon, even if it's crucial to fine-tune our skills over time. It's the emotions tied to your practice routine that really solidify habit, rather than repetition or frequency. By acknowledging and "celebrating" the small steps and improvements, we harness our emotions and reinforce positive behaviors. This creates a lasting impact on our practice routine and level of playing.

Consider this: 'celebration' isn't just about big improvement ; it's about recognizing even the smallest achievements. This approach will transform our practice routines into ever-evolving moments of growth.

A five-step plan for your practice sessions.

Set Clear Goals: Define specific, achievable objectives for each practice session. Whether it's mastering a challenging passage or improvising over a new chord progression, clarity breeds success.

Practice Mindfully: Engage fully with your instrument and the music. Focus on the quality of your practice rather than sheer quantity.

Embrace Small Wins: Acknowledge and celebrate every small positive step into the right direction, no matter how insignificant it may seem. Whether it's nailing a difficult lick or discovering a new melodic idea, pause to savor the moment.

Create Rituals: Develop personalized celebration rituals that resonate with you. Whether it's a moment of gratitude or a triumphant clap, make it natural and memorable.

Reflect and Appreciate: At the end of each practice session, take a moment to reflect on your progress. Embrace the opportunity to grow as musicians and appreciate the journey, regardless of setbacks.

Celebration is a powerful tool for rewiring our brain and reinforcing positive habits. By infusing our practice routines with instances of joy and gratitude, we cultivate a mindset of resilience and advancement. It is easy to do within music because we are emotionally moved by it, and we should never forget why we first got into music. We got into it because we love it.
