✨SPARKLMAMI - in this body LP (Verve)

(Sadly) Not happening that often, but we’re absolutely mind-blown by the timlessness of the amazing debut album by Texas-born, Chicago-based multidisciplinary artist Ariella Granados! Owing as much to Jazz, Disco & 1970s Brazil as to classic Mexican Boleros w/her fantastic church-rooted Vocals, instinctive Improvisation, experimental Soul depth, Funk warmth (think mid-70s Mizell Bros opulence – yep, that good!) & a beautifully fluid sense of (aforementioned) genres she created Music wholly her own & w/out ever being arbitrary: both fantastical & intimate (in Spanish & Engalish) – an ESSENTIAL LISTEN & an artist to watch!

▪️MANU DELAGO & MAX ZT – DEUCE LP (Session Work Records) - recorded at an old monastery this joint album by 2 extraordinary Musicians (Manu Delago on the Handpan & Max ZT on the Hammered Dulcimer) & Composers have now released a joint album of the most adventorous kind! What kind of Music is this?

▪️JÉROBOAM – JÉROBOAM LP (Favorite Recordings) – superb debut album by the „Original (11-piece!) Funk Band from Paris“! From Boogie-Funk to 2-Step Soul Crossover they deliver 8 heartfelt Songs, combining razor-sharp Composition w/genuine & relatable Lyrics: original & very, very dancy!

▪️OVERMONO - PURE DEVOTION (Blue Marble Vinyl) LP (XL) – their hotly-anticipated 2nd album is the Sound of beautiful imperfections, machine malfunctions & happy accidents, harnessed by the unflinching confidence that Overmono - aka brothers Tom & Ed Russell - have gained through years at the vanguard of Underground Electronica. Using Synths from the 70s & 80s, an antiquated train announcement speaker & literally baking a crash Cymbal in the oven + the emotive Vocals from revered British Poet John Joseph Holt, close collaborator Kindora & Paul Institute’s Ruthven it’s most life-affirming, an album that chooses emotion over desensitisation. Great 1!

▪️DAGMAR ZUNIGA - in filth your mystery is kingdom / far smile peasant in yellow music LP (AD 93)

The mind-bogglin debut album by this Nicaraguan-American Painter & Musician! A Mod-Psychedelic-Folk masterpiece, both intimate & expansive: Songs drift like disrupted signals, carried by Harmony, tape hiss & a strong sense of touch. Written & recorded in New York, Norway & Athens, Georgia over a period of 5 years (on her Tascam 424!): an atmospheric, devotional collage of Voices, time-distorted Guitars, Synths glittering & masterful layering of Texture & complex Harmonies addressing fragility, solitude & suffering, but as starting point for connection. “I hope my music helps people work through difficult experiences” she says “The same way it helps me.”

▪️JAMES MASON – RHYTHM OF LIFE LP (Chiaroscuro Records) – re-issue of the debut Solo album by this late 70s member of the Roy Ayers Ubiquity groop, originally released in 1977. A rare bird, as every Track is a Masterpiece: soaring, soulful, jazzy, & righteous played by a brilliant Ensemble (a.o. Justo Almario, Philip Woo, a very young Narada Michael Walden & Clarice Taylor) that work as 1 to hit some sublime Sounds, a Fusion KLASSIKER of the nyce kind & an ESSENTIAL LISTEN!

▪️MONSTER MAGNET – POWERTRIP 2LP ([pias]) – FINALLY! A re-issue of the 4th studio album by Red Bank’s proly finest Space-Stoners, originally released June 16, 1998 by A&M! As heavy as they come & errm… Kids! Do not do (their) drugs! Housed in Gatfold Sleeve. PS Proly 4 our money, their last stellar 1 A-Z!

▪️THE GUN CLUB – MIAMI LP (Blixa Sounds) – remastered re-issue of their Chris Stein (of Blondie fame; Debby Harry is on Backing Vocals too here!) produced 2nd album, recorded in NYC a at Blank Tape Studios, June 1982 & originally released September 20, 1982 by Animal Records. “Unique...in overhauling Country-Blues for a bloodcurdling contemporary impact. Far from camping it up, Pierce respects the elemental power of his inspiration; his eerie semi-coherent imagery are in line of descent.” ESSENTIAL LISTEN Includes printed Lyrics. Factory sealed. Brand new.

▪️VARIOUS ARTISTES/MELODIES INTERNATIONAL PRESENTS - ARIWA SOUNDS 2LP (Melodies International) – Neil Fraser (aka Mad Professor) founded Ariwa Sounds in 1979, the oldest & 1 of the most influential Independent Reggae Studios & Labels in the UK. This used to be called “Hip-Hop Clowns & Party-Rapper”, who have every right to it. Sez Franz: „Wir haben ja auch gerade wirklich nicht die besten Zeiten auf der Welt.
