The Hanged God: Óðinn Grímnir
(Volume I of the Óðinn Trilogy within the Northern Otherworld Series)
by Shani Oates

Challenging former atrophied or outdated knowledge regarding Óðinn’s acquisition of the runes and the mead of poetry, this extensive and intense study revisits Hávamál, Vǫluspá, Skáldskaparmál, Grímnismál, Heimskringla and Ynglinga Sagas specifically, to unravel and reconnect crucial factors that collectively reveal a magical formula for rebirth and resurrection. These kennings have preserved the threads of mysteries pertaining to Rúnar entrenched in Taboo. Óðinn’s quest of discovery takes him through three historically attested trials as Rites of Passage that find parallel forms in other animistic traditions. His ordeals of Mound, Tree and Sacral Kingship together with an articulation of the role of Hamingja are hitherto connected.

Holy Daimon
Frater Acher
Standard Hardback
8vo (240 × 165 mm)
216 pp
Illustrations by Jose Gabriel Alegría Sabogal
Black and white photographs by the author

Holy Daimon is issued in a new edition, with 18 illustrations by Jose Gabriel Alegría Sabogal. This first volume of Frater Acher’s Holy Daimon cycle is the result of more than ten years of ritual and theoretical magical research, and is comprised of three parts: History, Memory and Practice, providing a well-grounded introduction, as well as a practical path to creating communion with one’s holy daimon.

Rather than drawing on Abramelin or Crowley’s Liber Samekh, Frater Acher returns to the source, analysing the daimon as it was experienced in three cultures, Chaldean, Zoroastrian and Ancient Greek. These give a necessary overview to contextualise the material that follows, and restores the daimon to its central place in the journey of attainment.

Historical Introduction

CABALA: SPIEGEL DER KUNST VND NATUR was first published precisely four hundred years ago in the Free Imperial City of Augsburg, located in the Holy Roman Empire. The first edition was printed by Johann Schultes Sr., and published by the enigmatic Tyrolean, Stephan Michelspacher. CABALA remains one of the most fascinating, beautiful and problematic alchemical texts of the early seventeenth century. Its short text, partly in verse-form, describes three steel mirrors forged by the heat of the sun and revealed by the grace of God, which are at least partly metaphorical. When combined together, these mirrors – which reflect the Paracelsian triumvirate of mercury, salt and sulphur – reveal the great Arcanum, or secret of alchemical transmutation.

Referring to it as the Book of Destiny, Antoine Court de Gebelin published the first documented essays on the Tarot in his multi-volume French encyclopedia Le Monde Primitif in 1787. The ideas expressed on the Tarot as a book of wisdom or mystical repository, sometimes known as the Book of Thoth, was quoted by many proponents of the esoteric tradition; William Wynn Westcott, Papus, Eliphas Levi, A.E.Waite, Paul Foster Case and Manly P. Hall among them.

This complete English translation provides an important text in the history and use of the Tarot to scholars and diviners of the western esoteric tradition.

Collins Australia, 1988 (first edition).

Purple cloth hardcover, gilt to spine. Octavo. Both book and dust jacket in near mint condition. Only very minor shelf wear to bottom of boards. Black and white illustrations, bibliography, index. Pages are immaculately clean, no fading or inscriptions. Dust cover under protective laminate. An excellent copy of an incredibly rare book.

During the 1950s and early 1960s the Sydney-based trance-artist and Pan-worshipper, Rosaleen Norton, was well known in Australia as ‘the Witch of Kings Cross’ and was frequently portrayed in the tabloid press as an evil ‘devil-worshipping’ figure from the red-light district. Norton attracted attention from both the public at large and also the local police for engaging in bizarre pagan sex-rituals with her lover, the poet Gavin Greenlees. Details of these activities would surface from time to time in the local courts when Norton was defending her metaphysical beliefs and seeking to defuse claims that her magical paintings and drawings were obscene.

Norton was also associated with the scandal that eventually engulfed the professional career of renowned musical conductor, Eugene (later, Sir Eugene) Goossens who had arrived in Australia in 1947 and became a member of Norton’s magical coven six years later. Norton dedicated her magical practice to the Great God Pan and to a lesser extent Hecate, Lilith and Lucifer.

Pan’s Daughter is the only biography of Rosaleen Norton and provides the most detailed and authoritative account of her magical beliefs.

Ballantyne Press, late 19th C

Brown clothbound hardcover with gold foil titling to spine. Sewn pages. Good to very good condition. The wear to this item is mostly superficial, showing signs of typical shelf wear and scuff marks to corners and bottom of spine. Structurally in good condition, no major damage to binding. A significant amount of foxing and page tanning. A good copy despite its considerable age.

This is Franz Hartmann’s biography of Paracelsus. It includes a broad yet detailed survey of his teachings on a wide range of subjects, including Cosmology, Anthropology, Pneumatology, Medicine, Magic, Alchemy, Astrology, Philosophy and Theosophy or Occultism. Paracelsus (1493-1541), born Philippus Aureolus Theophrastus Bombastus von Hohenheim, was a Swiss German philosopher, physician, botanist, astrologer, and general occultist. He is credited as the founder of toxicology. He is also a famous revolutionary for utilising observations of nature, rather than referring to ancient texts, something of radical defiance during his time. He is credited for giving zinc its name, calling it zincum. Modern psychology often also credits him for being the first to note that some diseases are rooted in psychological conditions. Paracelsus’ most important legacy is likely his critique of the scholastic methods in medicine, science and theology. According to Mme. Blavatsky, founder of the Theosophical Society, he was an “Adept-Initiate”. She calls him “the great and unfortunate physician-Occultist and the greatest Alchemist of the age”.
