At the beginning of the ukulele boom in the late 1990's, Ko'olau Ukulele Company (one of the 'four K' Hawaiian master ukulele builders) set up a collaboration with a well known multi-generational luthier family in Java, Indonesia, with the goal of producing a more affordable ukulele line, with Hawaiian-quality craftsmanship.
