Not sure which Dawn Patrol coffee is yours? Start with what you already drink.

Milk most mornings? Go Cheetah. It’s sweet, caramelly and holds up nicely in a flat white.

Prefer it black? Néstor Lasso is the espresso pick, while Fabián Muñoz is made for filter. Both are from the same region in Colombia, but taste very different in the cup.

And Mountain Water is the decaf. Sweet, full-bodied and no sad decaf energy.

Dawn Patrol have been roasting in the same corner of South Australia since 2014, moving three times without ever turning into a cafe. They’re in an old tractor shed on Main Rd in McLaren Vale now, roaster on site, sourcing built around knowing the farm and the grower behind every lot.

Meet Kindred Coffee ☕️

Alex and David started Kindred in 2019 without a roastery of their own — borrowing space, booking roast time where they could and slowly building the thing properly.

Now they’re roasting out of their own Adelaide space, with two Probats, 35+ years of specialty coffee experience between them, and long-term relationships with producers and green coffee suppliers that keep genuinely good coffee coming through the door.

Dads are easy to buy for, which is exactly the problem.

He’ll say he doesn’t need anything. He’ll be happy with whatever. He’ll drink the instant out of the tin because it’s there and it’s fine and he’s not going to make a thing of it.

He’s been doing that for about thirty years. So maybe this year, something he’d never get around to buying himself. Coffee from a different independent Adelaide roaster every month, roasted fresh the week it goes out, turning up at his door without him having to think about it.

It’s not a grand gesture. It’s just a good one, multiple times over.

Nobody’s coffee got better because they spent another two grand.

Grind it fresh. Stir the grounds so the water stops finding shortcuts. Tamp level, not like you’re annoyed at it. Steam until it sounds wrong, then stop a second earlier. That’s most of it.

The bit people skip is the coffee. A bag that’s been sitting since autumn will taste like a bag that’s been sitting since autumn, no matter what you paid for the machine pulling it.

All three reasons come up constantly. All three are wrong. Here’s why >>

Good news, you don’t. Tell us how you brew and we sort the rest. A different South Australian roaster every fortnight, ground for your setup. Half the fun is not knowing who’s next.

This one I take personally. Orders close Sunday, it’s roasted to order, coffee leaves the roaster within the next 72 hours. It doesn’t sit in a warehouse and it definitely doesn’t sit in my garage.

Fair, and easily sorted. Stretch it out, skip one, or stick a bag in the freezer. Coffee freezes better than it sits on the bench going quietly dying.
