I hope you enjoy this 4 min time lapse of two, 22” Bowed Empire, tailored soft lampshade recovers sent to me from Melbourne. Recovered in a faux silk, finished with fringing and handmade bias trims, very happy with the results here 😍.

Tailored lampshades such as these with a significant bow, require precise pattern making, correct tensioning and hand-stretching skills. They are very time consuming and require lots of patience but ultimately they bring you great satisfaction when you get it right! I actually really love the process of hand-stretching. You will notice there are 2 linings, the first is a stretch lining to provide additional layer for a see through fabric, the second is a satin lining to finish the inside of the lampshades, along with providing light diffusion and particularly important for floor lamps. The soft light through these lampshades and underneath truly beautiful ✨

Learn the professional techniques from accomplished Lampshade Maker and Artisan, Laura of Amore Lampshades who has been making and designing lampshades for the last 15 years.

Workshops are being held at the beautiful showroom of Abbode Interiors 148 Magill Road, Norwood, Adelaide, South Australia, 5067

You all walk out the door with your own beautiful and well-made lampshade all under my personal guidance.

You will have the choice of making either a Drum or Tapered lampshade with 7 different sizes to choose from (2026 I have introduced a new lampshade size into the workshops - a Tall Tapered). All components needed to make the lampshade will be supplied, excluding the fabric. There will be a selection of beautiful designer fabrics available on the day to purchase from Sarah Drayton Textiles; Walter G | Lauren & Genevieve and Cloth & Print Co or you can bring along your own fabric (an information leaflet will be emailed to you with further details regarding fabrics once you register).

SALA Festival with my mum today - helping her with selling her art collection dating from 1979 ❤️.

Open studio this weekend and next in Hahndorf (or by appointment during SALA), huge amount of contemporary art, encaustics, watercolour and mixed media, framed and unframed, on view and at discounted prices.

BEFORE to AFTER

Standing over a metre tall this beautiful original lamp had plenty of character, but before it could continue to be enjoyed, the lampshade needed some careful restoration to prevent it from falling apart.

The restoration involved stripping the shade back to its frame, creating a new supportive lining for the main cover, and finishing it with handmade fabric trims applied to both the top and bottom edges. These trims not only provide additional strength and stability but also conceal the imperfections along the edges, giving the lampshade a refined finish while preserving its original charm.

Now standing tall, proud and ready for many more years! 💛

What a perfect result, these recovers in dark navy linen supplied by my client. I’ve seen them in situ and they look fabulous sitting either side of their sitting room spreading beautiful light onto their blue walls. Quality, white lampshade backing to take these through many years once again. Happy client 😍👍♥️

Very unscripted 👀, but yes this is me doing my usual, working away on a recovery. Firstly stripping the frame can be a bit dusty so I always like to don a mask, nothing heavy duty but just to keep the dust out, and these duck bill masks, they work the best with glasses I reacon. Hope your day is going well, mine too, ooroo. 💕
