🚲🚲 CYCLE FOR THE CENSUS 🚲🚲

On Tuesday 11th August, among many questions in the 2026 Census is about how you travelled to work.

Recording how people travel helps show the demand for infrastructure, and informs planning and investment.

How to do it:
🚲 If you only ride your bike to work, you can tick 'Bicycle'.
πŸšŒπŸš„If you ride your bike to the train or bus station, you can tick 'Bicycle' and 'Train' or Bus'.

Proprietary parts really do suck. πŸ§›β€β™‚οΈ

Why proprietary parts are a curse πŸ‘Ώ

As mechanics and riders, proprietary gimmicks are a nightmare. Model-specific headset spacers, custom-shaped seatposts, built-in suspension β€” these things lock you into a brand's ecosystem, or can be expensive or impossible to replace. Worst case scenario: if that part breaks or is no longer supported by the manufacturer, well, you can put that bike in the bin.

The Aix doesn't do proprietary parts. You won't be chasing obscure spares on a dodgy website or trawling forums at 2am to find a solution. 🀬🀬🀬

Our bikes are built to be ridden, not held hostage by their own cleverness. No proprietary bits, and no nonsense. πŸ¦‡ πŸ–€

HORROR FIND 😱

We've seen bent saddles. We've seen broken.

We have not seen this.

How long do you think they were riding it in this position? (Because, yes, they *were* still riding it. 😬) Best guesses below.πŸ‘‡

πŸ–€πŸ’š BEHOLD THE BEAST THAT PETE HATH WROUGHT πŸ’šπŸ–€

Pete needed a new gravel bike. And being half of the team behind Gothic Cycles, well, what better frame to start with? After all, why should everyone else get to have all the fun?

With decades as a detail-obsessed mechanic and countless custom builds behind him, it's no surprise Pete knew exactly what he wanted on his Gothic. And that included the colour scheme: green and black (zero decision-making required there) with a sparkle finish. Hey, if you're gonna go big, you go big.

Let's see.. what else have we got?
βœ… Shimano Di2 for wireless, reliable performance
βœ… Garbaruk Bike Components drivetrain for lightness and unmistakable style
βœ… Hand-built wheelset with silver Hopetech Pro 5 hubs (no swarm of hornets here)
βœ… Silver Hope seatpost clamp & Garbaruk top cap
βœ… Headset spacers machined by Pete on the shop lathe (this man commits)

With a hypnotising glitter finish and enough silver to keep a werewolf at bay, Pete's Gothic Aix is a thing of beauty.

Now if only he could find more time to actually ride it. πŸ˜†
