Recent work carried out on a late 50s Premier, 20x14" bass drum in need of a lot of attention...
Complete strip-down, all hardware soaked, de-rusted, lubed. All lug inserts removed and polished / lubed. Wrap repaired and polished, including a few holes patched and plugged. Both hoops stripped back to bare wood, inlays repaired and refixed and all woodwork refinished in gleaming gloss. Drum shell inner cleaned up and also finished in high gloss. Bearing edges tidied up. All chrome polished and drum reassembled with brand new Evans heads. All up, almost 30 hours of work but a happy result. Last photo shows the old darling in her new studio home.

Another beautiful Ludwig Downbeat kit off the workbench recently. This one from 1964, in Sky Blue Pearl. Needed several parts replaced with period correct originals and a few holes filled. Hardware all cleaned, polished and lubed. Shells polished to a high lustre and bass drum hoops stripped and resprayed. Tuned up beautifully! This kit is for sale - pm for details.

Ludwig Super Classic drumkit; 3 drums; 22/13/16 in original Black Oyster Pearl finish. Keystone badges. Build date, 1969.
All shells are 3-ply maple / poplar / maple.
This kit is very original, collector’s grade. I am the second owner. All drums are in round and have been stored in hard cases when not in use - smoke free environment.
The bass drum has curved spurs (which pinpoints the build date), but also has keystone badges which is a little unusual. It therefore places the date in the brief ‘changeover’ period (1969) from gullwing spurs and keystone badges, to curved spurs and blue/olive badges.

Original Black Oyster wrap is clean, tight and unfaded on the whole kit. Chrome is outstanding condition, as are the tension rods - no rust whatsoever and no dings, rust or scratches.

Aside of the kit being in outstanding physical condition, all drums tune up easily, delivering that famous vintage Ludwig tone.

BASS DRUM 22x14”
Clear interior, keystone badge, curved spurs, late 60s consolette rail tom mount, factory installed shell mount Ludwig cymbal stand. Clear Emad batter head, original Ludwig factory resonant head with porthole. Rail mount has one Pearl thumbscrew replacing the Ludwig nut, for ease of setup. 70s style, toothed cog tilter tom mount as opposed to the less stable, 60s ‘clockface’ style. Badge and wrap are tight and clean. Chrome is perfect.

FLOOR TOM 16x16”
Clear interior, keystone badge. Coated batter head, coated resonant head. Original 17” Ludwig legs and rubber feet. Original round k**b dampener. Badge and wrap are tight and clean. Chrome is perfect.

MOUNTED TOM 13x9”
White factory-painted interior, keystone badge. Coated batter head, clear resonant head. Original round k**b dampener. Badge and wrap are tight and clean. Chrome is perfect.

ADDITIONAL
Kit is supplied with hard cases and no additional hardware. All heads are unmarked but used. You will not find a better example of this kit and it will certainly increase in value over time. Inspection welcome - Mt Barker SA. PM any questions.

Early 60s Premier Royal Ace 4, 8-lug snare drum.

WMP wrap is tight and a nicely yellowed - not bad for a 60+ year old drum.
Everything (except heads) all original and excellent condition, including dampener, parallel throw-off, snare wires and slotted tuning rods. Heads have very little play time. Beautiful example of this rare model drum - great crack and excellent tuning range.
Fully checked over, serviced, tuned, polished and ready to play!

Another satisfied customer - this time, in Aotearoa (NZ). To match the beautiful White Marine Pearl, Super Classic Ludwig kit restored several years ago, we recently supplied the 14 x 6-1/2" snare drum. Ever so slightly lighter wrap but a very nice addition nonetheless! Congratulations to Stephen - may they bring you years of playing pleasure!
