One of the wonderful things about living in our little corner of Queensland is having access to local producers who genuinely care about the food they grow and the land they work on. 🌿

Golden Hill Farm is a great example of this.

Luke and his family are building their farm around thoughtful, sustainable farming practices, raising livestock with a focus on working alongside the natural environment rather than against it.

And they're continuing to grow and improve what they do, making locally produced food more accessible to our community.

When we choose to support local growers and producers, we're doing more than just buying food. We're supporting local families, reducing the distance our food needs to travel and helping businesses like Golden Hill Farm continue doing what they do. 💛

Their farm-fresh eggs are available locally in 1770!

When people think about visiting the reef from 1770, Lady Musgrave Island is often the first place that comes to mind.

But here's something many visitors don't realise…

Lady Musgrave isn't the only reef you can explore from here. 🤿

There are snorkelling and diving trips with Dive, Spear and Sport that take small groups out to explore other incredible sites within the Southern Great Barrier Reef and Bunker Group.

With a small team and an intimate group experience, it's a very different way to spend a day on the reef.

Not everyone who comes to Agnes Water & 1770 wants a packed itinerary.

Recently, a couple travelling with their young baby came into the shop and asked us:
“What can we do around town that isn’t water or tour-based?”

They still wanted to explore, spend some time outdoors and hopefully squeeze in a little fishing — just at their own pace.

So we talked through a few ideas, including:
🌿 A visit to Captain Creek Minis
🚙 Exploring some of the 4WD tracks around Eurimbula, Wreck Rock and Deepwater
🎣 Throwing in a line around 1770

That’s the thing about holidays here — there isn't one "right" way to do them.

There’s always something happening around Agnes Water & 1770 - you just need to know where to look.

As we move out of the school holiday rush and into a slightly slower October, it’s a lovely time to enjoy some of the smaller things happening around town.

Local markets, community events, live music, workshops, parkrun and plenty of reasons to get out and about.

We get asked this one a lot… 😅

“Do you have any half-day tours out to the reef?”

The short answer is no — and there’s a pretty good reason why!

Lady Musgrave Island is around 60km offshore, with the journey taking approximately 90 minutes each way.

By the time you travel out, you’re already well into your morning, and you haven’t even jumped in the water yet! 🌊

A trip to the Southern Great Barrier Reef really is a full-day experience. And honestly, that’s not a bad thing.

Give yourself the day. Enjoy the journey out, explore the beauty of the reef and immerse yourself in the experience.

Some things just aren’t meant to be rushed 💛🐠🪸
