Hello,
Its time for your HELP AND SAY on the Shute Harbour Boat Ramp.
We have petitions around town at Marine shops, Fishing Shops, and many others businesses around Airlie, Proserpine and Bowen. We are also endeavoring get some in Mackay and Collinsville (if you can help to get them there please give us a call). Please go find one and sign up we need your support and we need to move on this quickly before Main Roads start their work on the old boat ramp.

OUR PETITION:

TO: HON. ANASTACIA PALASZCZUK, HON. MARK BAILEY, MRS JULIEANNE GILBERT, MS AMANDA CAMM, MR GEORGE CHRISTENSEN MP

CONSTRUCTION OF BOAT LAUNCH FACITIES AT SHUTE HARBOUR
I, Robert Spees (Bob) of 2/27 Stormvogel Dr Mandalay QLD 4802,[email protected] am the promoter for this petition.
We the undersigned strongly object to the current work being carried out on the old boat ramp at Shute Harbour.
This plan was also rejected by Whitsunday Regional Council as reported in the Whitsunday Times.
We also object that the State Government having decided to go ahead with these works without consultation with the local people.
This information and development has been kept from the electorates with only minimal information to be found.
We call on boat ramp works to cease immediately and call for a feasibility study to claim the land adjacent to the barge wharf.
With a wall built between the 2 points and back filled would make a perfect area for a 4 lane boat ramp with pontoons for safety & ease.
A free parking area for cars with trailers for up to 200 spots. This would also alleviate the need for boaties to park along the main road with their trailers, which is what they have had to do because there is no where to park. Sometimes cars & trailers are parked all the way back for well over a kilometre. There would also be plenty of area to have Toilet facilities, a boat wash down and possibly two fishing pontoons off the wall with seats and rod holders for those locals and visitors to our area without access to a boat.

Hello all, hope you are well. Times have been very unusual to say the least. luckily we have been allowed to go fishing here. Bob has been fairly busy with rod and reel repairs, but has also made some of his mackerel rigs. Have had some reports of the mackerel are starting to turn up. So if you need some please ring us, we are also in the process of sourcing some local garfish and ribbon fish, hopefully we will have them soon.
Bob has been out crabbing and fishing the creeks and rivers, it has been a hit and miss ventures with one day getting excellent catches and the next dead. That's fishing! I have attached pics of the different rigs he has.
Cheers Yvonne & Bob

Please everyone do the right thing... we don't want to be stopped from our fishing. I have copied a part of email from the president of AFTA FYI

I saw a post from Wilson's Fishing that I think summaries the situation best and have copied with a few changes so everyone can use, this is posted below.

While we are able to go fish for subsistence in some areas, we must support the decisions by following the guidelines set out, remember each state or even council has different restrictions so please always check and follow local guidelines.

Fishing provides families with food and can be of great importance to the mental health of individuals. This is a real opportunity for anglers and boaters to show the way and do the right thing. You must remember that Fishing is a privilege, not a right for people, and as such it can be taken away if we break the rules.

What we do not need to see is anglers travelling great distances to reach non-local waters, mass gatherings at ramps and boaters simply out for a day on the water. The ability to fish for food has a caveat to fish locally. It also has an over-riding demand for social distancing and all other mandated Covid-19 regulations.

For us this means:
Fish with people only from your household
Fish only in local waters
Do not travel to fish (head directly to your nearest ramp)
Fish only for food, not for fun
Do not delay when launching and retrieving your boat
Do not allow household members to play on the beach or in any nearby park
Maintain social distance at all times
Do not clean fish at the ramp, take them home to reduce time out of your home

If we take this opportunity and laugh in the face of the regulations, we will have this access taken away - it's that simple.

We are in this together, so we must all follow the rules. A few bad eggs, some people who do not do the right thing and we will have fishing banned in states that currently allow it.

It is now in your hands to do the right thing, so do it.

Well the situation regarding COVID-19 and fishing just keeps evolving.
The latest is both Seqwater and Sunwater-managed recreation areas, dams, lakes and weirs are closed to public use until further notice.
You can still fish salt water as well as inland rivers and streams as long as you're in a group of no more than two, practicing social distancing and you're fishing to gather food. However, if you don't need to catch fish for food, you're better off staying home.
HAPPY FISHING EVERYONE
