🎨 What a day at Art Parts Fine Arts!
A huge thank you to Dan Butterworth for bringing his energy, knowledge and passion for painting to Art Parts Fine Arts today, where he hosted a workshop with the students from Indie School Albury.
With more than 40 years of painting experience, Dan is an established artist, Doug Moran and Archibald Prize finalist, and has even appeared on the Australian version of Portrait Artist of the Year, where he painted the incredible Maggie Beer.
Known for his loose, energetic and gestural approach, Dan often works on cardboard using a limited palette of house paints. His portraiture and figure paintings—including many self-portraits—explore social, political and personal ideas, using the human figure as a powerful tool for reflection and commentary.
Today, the students got stuck in and learnt how to:
🖌️ Work at scale
🖌️ Paint with quick, expressive and gestural brushwork
🖌️ Develop confidence through experimentation
🖌️ Take advantage of one-on-one feedback
🖌️ Learn through live demonstrations from Dan
And, of course, Dan brought his signature energy to the gallery—turning up the music, lifting the atmosphere and getting everyone excited about painting! 🎶🎨
It’s always a pleasure having Dan in the gallery, and we can’t wait to welcome him back again.
