Meet Arrernte poet Marie Elena Ellis, author of I Am the Desert, her debut collection of poetry is published by Red Dirt Poetry.

Within the book there are QR codes that take you to recordings of Marie Elena Ellis reading her poetry, accompanied by soundscapes created by Daniel “Dan the Underdog” McAleer.

I was lucky enough to meet the wonderful Alice Zaslavsky at the Australian Booksellers Conference back in June, and I cheekily asked if she would be willing to record a little something about her new book, Weeknights with Alice.

Of course, Alice is an absolute pro! And can we just take a moment to appreciate that glorious green outfit? 💚

Congratulations to all the authors who have been shortlisted for the NT Book Awards.

A special mention to local artist and poet Emma Trenorden, whose poetry book High Fire Danger has been shortlisted.
Such a wonderful achievement. 

The winners will be announced on 23 September.

Wondering what sold at the Red Dirt Poetry Festival over the weekend?

I did a quick calculation of our sales. Swipe to see who was our standout bestseller! There were also a few joint positions along the way.

A huge thank you to all the wonderful poets and authors who visited our pop-up bookshop at the festival and dropped into Red Kangaroo Books over the weekend and Monday. It was such a pleasure to meet you.

And congratulations to Laurie May and the Red Dirt Poetry Festival board on a very successful festival. What a wonderful celebration of poetry, creativity and community in Mparntwe/Alice Springs.

Meet Yirga Gelaw Woldeyes — writer, researcher and poet, born in Lalibela, Ethiopia, and now based in Perth, Western Australia.

Yirga is here in Mparntwe/Alice Springs for the Red Dirt Poetry Festival, and his book Trials of Hope is available to buy at Red Kangaroo Books and at the Festival.

The weather is glorious today, so why not pop down and enjoy some of the amazing events happening on the final day of the Red Dirt Poetry Festival?
