When the Rains Come
What the Bones Remember
An exhibition by the artists of Engawala Art Centre presented as a 2026 satellite event.

Opening: Friday 11 September, 4pm
Exhibition dates: 9 to 19 September
Location: June Marriott Gallery, Central Craft

Following six weeks of rain across Central Australia, the artists of Engawala Art Centre heard the ancient cries of megafauna at dawn and dusk near Alcoota, one of Australia’s most significant megafauna fossil sites.

The exhibition brings this testimony together with Alcoota’s eight-million-year fossil record through terracotta wall pieces, ceramic jewellery and paintings on canvas. Connected by a shared symbolic language developed collaboratively by the artists, the works carry the story across Country, season and deep time.

Kicking off a big weekend of art:

🌿 TJAPALTJARRI BROTHERS 🌿

Meet the artists behind our next exhibition at Central Craft, Jamesy Collins & Sam Gledhill.

Jamesy Collins brings traditional Anmatyerre craftsmanship to the exhibition, carving boomerangs and animals from locally sourced mulga and river red gum roots, sharing his and his grandfather’s Dreamings.

Sam Gledhill, a Mparntwe-born sign-writer, captures the character of his hometown through painting on scrap metal and glass collected from town and bush.

Together, Jamesy and Sam bring their practices and perspectives together in Tjapaltjarri Brothers, celebrating craftsmanship, culture and working both ways.

From colourful stained glass panels to beautifully crafted ceramic pieces, this exhibition celebrates new skills, creative exploration and the joy of making.

Playing with Clay is a 6-week beginner to intermediate ceramics course that goes beyond the basics. Explore wheel throwing, handbuilding, surface decoration, glazing and creative experimentation in a supportive studio environment. Whether you're building confidence or expanding your skills, this course is all about learning, creating and enjoying the process.

Sessions take place on Friday evenings.

Join us for a hands-on ceramics 6 week workshop series led by Em Frank 👐🧱, focused on the fundamentals of hand building.

Across the series, participants will explore pinch, coil and slab techniques while building confidence with clay and form ✨. Em will guide you through the making process, surface decoration and finishing touches 🎨, with plenty of space to experiment and develop your own ideas.

Suitable for beginners and those wanting to refresh their skills, this series is all about learning by doing in a relaxed, supportive studio environment 🌿🫶.
