⭐ ALBUM OF THE WEEK — MEGADETH: COUNTDOWN TO EXTINCTION

Most people don’t know this… but one of the songs on Countdown to Extinction was literally written because Megadeth got kicked out of their own studio by a SWAT team.

Yep. During the 1992 Los Angeles riots, the band were recording in Burbank when armed police stormed the building, ordered everyone out, and shut the session down. The chaos, tension, and anger from that night directly inspired the writing of “Foreclosure of a Dream.”

That’s the kind of real‑world fire that shaped this album — and you can hear it.
This wasn’t just Megadeth tightening their sound. This was a band creating under pressure, curfews, and literal civil unrest outside the studio doors.

And the result?
One of the biggest metal albums of the ’90s.
Double platinum.
Debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard charts.
A record that brought thrash into the mainstream without losing its bite.

🤘 FLOTSAM AND JETSAM — FOUR ESSENTIAL CHAPTERS OF AMERICAN THRASH METAL 🤘

Before Jason Newsted became the bassist for Metallica, he was laying down bass, writing lyrics and helping shape the sound of Flotsam and Jetsam — one of the most important and underrated bands to emerge from the 1980s American thrash metal scene.

Their 1986 debut Doomsday for the Deceiver is a genuine piece of metal history. It remains the only Flotsam and Jetsam album featuring Newsted, who left the band later that year to join Metallica following the death of Cliff Burton.

Then came No Place for Disgrace in 1988 — a landmark second album that saw the band continue their assault after Newsted's departure, cementing their place among America's great thrash acts.

But Flotsam and Jetsam didn't stand still. Drift, originally released in 1995, saw the band move into darker, more melodic and atmospheric territory — a fascinating evolution that has earned the album a cult following. Our 2025 reissue is limited to just 500 copies.

⭐ MONDAY METAL MEMORY — IN THIS MOMENT
Starting the week with a band that’s been part of my heavy‑music journey for a long time — In This Moment.

I’ve been a fan since their early nu‑metal/screamo days. There was something raw and powerful in those first records, and Maria Brink’s voice grabbed me instantly. Even back then she had that rare mix of vulnerability and ferocity — the kind of vocalist who doesn’t just sing at you, she pulls you into the world she’s creating.

Over the years they’ve shifted into darker, more atmospheric territory — cinematic metal, ritualistic energy, huge production, and a stage presence that’s become legendary. It’s been incredible watching them evolve from a heavy band with potential into a full‑blown artistic force.
Seeing them live is absolutely a bucket‑list item for me.

I’ve been spinning W.A.S.P. all week while putting together the Album of the Week, and it got me thinking… every fan has their era. The one that hooked them, shaped them, and still hits hardest today.

For me, it was Inside the Electric Circus — my first W.A.S.P. purchase back in Launceston, thanks to a local paper calling it their “debut album.” I believed it until Rage showed the earlier clips and my world changed. From that moment, I was locked in for life.

⭐ ALBUM OF THE WEEK — W.A.S.P. The 7 Savage: 1984–1992 (7LP Box Set)

When I thought about which album to spotlight this week, I hit a wall — because when it comes to W.A.S.P., I simply cannot pick just one.

Their debut?
The Last Command?

Every one of them is a cornerstone of my musical DNA.

“My First Four Albums”

Today I’m throwing it back to where my music journey really began.

These are the first four albums I ever owned — originally on cassette tape, played to absolute destruction in my bedroom in Launceston… and later blasted through the stereo of my Holden Gemini. Windows down, volume cranked, letting the streets of Lonny enjoy the music as much as I did. Classic Tassie memories.
