We love to support smaller publishers such as Little Book Press , a not for profit organisation that promotes literacy, books and reading.

Finding My Culture is based on a true story that follows a child’s journey to connect with their identity and embrace their culture. Written by debut authors Bromley Johnson and Suzie Johnson, illustrated by Thomas Readett

It is the first picture book by Raising Literacy Australia published for distribution through their upcoming Shaping Deadly Minds pilot – a much-anticipated adaptation of their successful Words Grow Minds campaign, co-designed with Aboriginal leaders, community and service providers, to support and improve literacy outcomes for Aboriginal children.

📚✨ Calling all local authors and illustrators! ✨📚

Schoolworks will be hosting the Big Big Bairnsdale Book Bazaar on Saturday 10th October, which is also the national Love Your Bookshop day! Local writers and illustrators are invited to host a stall (free of charge) and share their books with the local community. More details of our event will be announced over the forthcoming weeks. It's going to be an exciting first for us and a great community day!

Happy Monday morning everyone!...How much rain did you get at your place? Bairnsdale only a couple of mm's, Traralgon registered about 20mm and our family in Wangaratta area have 70mm and it's still raining!...

In the meantime, here are some of our new book displays with some great titles. I just love 'The Mushroom and the Flower' by the amazingly talented illustrator and author, Sally Soweol Han. That's my pic for a shortlisted book award next year 🙂

Big smiles and toothy grins today at Storytime as we celebrated 'Dental Week'. Thank you to Sue Vaughan , Senior Dental Nurse from BRHS for coming along today with her funny big plastic teeth, which the children had fun cleaning. Thank you to Karyn who read us funny stories about the tooth fairy.

I am incredibly grateful to have played a small part in connecting one of our regular customers with Nicole Morris - Author, founder of the Australian Missing Persons Register. Through this connection, the customer shared the moving story of her foster daughter, a 15-year-old girl who went missing without a trace from Wantirna South in 2000. Her story is now featured in Nicole’s third book, 'Lost'. While it is an emotional read, it brings vital awareness—because you never know who might read it and hold the missing piece of information.

I am donating 15% of all sales from Nicole's books to Safe & Found, a charity dedicated to protecting individuals at risk of becoming lost. You can help by purchasing a copy in store or via our online shop, link below.
