Not every bunch of flowers needs a reason.

Sometimes it’s a birthday.
Sometimes it’s a thank you.
Sometimes someone needs a little aroha.

And sometimes… you just saw something beautiful and decided it belonged on your table.

We’re creating in the studio today with plenty of dried, preserved and harakeke pieces ready to go, from little treasures through to keepsakes that are a little more special.

Open today 9am–3pm
10 Grose Lane, Bairnsdale

Pop in and see what finds you. 🌿

This is exactly what we created our little studio for… weekends like this. 🌿

Our little space is going to be full of creating, connecting, learning and plenty of yarning this weekend, with two completely different workshops happening.

💐 FRIDAY NIGHT | BRING YOUR BESTIE

A couple of hours to switch off from everything else and create alongside your favourite person.

You’ll create your own dried floral book arrangement, have a laugh, reconnect and leave with something beautiful you made together.

And the best part… 📣 your bestie comes FREE!

📅 Friday 21st August 2026
🕡 6:30pm–8:30pm
📍 Marama Flax Creations, 10 Grose Lane, Bairnsdale
💰 $95 — one ticket includes TWO people

We only have ONE ticket left!

🌿 SATURDAY | WEAVING WHAT MATTERS 🌿

Then Saturday we slow things right down.

We’re weaving.
We’re learning.
We’re sharing culture.
We’re creating something that matters.

I’m honoured to be sharing Māori putiputi weaving alongside Paula Harrison, who will be sharing her local Gunaikurnai knowledge and weaving practices.

A beautiful opportunity to sit together, work with natural fibres, share yarns and learn about weaving through both Māori and First Nations perspectives.

No experience needed, just come ready to learn, create and connect.

📅 Saturday 22nd August 2026
🕒 3:00pm–5:00pm
📍 Marama Flax Creations, 10 Grose Lane, Bairnsdale

👉 Tickets are being coordinated by the organisers. Book your place here:

This is what we wanted our studio to be, not just somewhere we create, but somewhere people gather.

Sometimes the work is to create.
Sometimes the work is to return to the places that fill us.

This weekend, that place is Tangaroa. 🌊

No workshops.
No markets.
No studio.
No flowers.

Just time beside the moana, surrounded by the same te taiao that inspires so much of what we create at Marama Flax Creations.

Te harakeke.
Te whenua.
Te ngahere.
Te moana.

These are treasures we’re lucky enough to live amongst… places that ground us, restore us and remind us that we are part of something much bigger than our work/business.

Out of the studio today and tomorrow, filling our own kete before we return to creating again on Tuesday.

Harakeke (flax) doesn’t just arrive on our table ready to become something beautiful.

There’s a whole process before the creating even begins.

We select the rau (leaf) carefully.
We karakia.
We harvest with intention.
We never cut the rito, the baby at the centre of the plant.
We prepare, strip, soften and work each rau by hand before it ever becomes a putiputi (flower).

And even then, harakeke has a mind of its own.

No two rau behave the same. Some bend beautifully. Some are stubborn. Some decide they’re going in a completely different direction than what we had planned.

That’s part of working with a natural material.

For us, it’s never about forcing harakeke into something perfect. It’s learning how to work with it. Then slowly, one rau at a time, it becomes something new.

A putiputi.
A bouquet.
A timeless treasure that will sit in someone’s home, be carried down an aisle, gifted to someone they love, or mark a moment they’ll remember forever.

That’s why we’ll probably always talk about the process just as much as the finished creation. Because the beauty isn’t only in what harakeke becomes.

🌱 It’s in how we got there.

🌱 The shop is FULL again.
And right now, enjoy 15% OFF everything on our centre table!

Shelves filled.
Everlasting handmade flowers everywhere.
Little one of a kind creations tucked into every corner.

And this is my favourite kind of full… creations just waiting for the right person to walk through our doors and find them.

Whether it’s a gift, a little something for your home, or simply a “just because” for yourself… there’s plenty to choose from in studio right now.

Every piece is handmade and timeless, every one is different, and once they’re gone, they’re gone.

I used to think being “good at business” meant being busy. 🌱

Booked out.
Phone going.
Orders everywhere.
Running around like a headless chook thinking… look at me go. 😂

Now?

One of the biggest things I’ve learnt is that busy doesn’t always mean growing.

Sometimes growth looks like sitting quietly in the studio.
Doing the paperwork you’ve avoided for three days.
Planning ahead.
Cleaning up systems.
Saying no to something that doesn’t fit.
Taking time to actually think about where Marama Flax Creations is going instead of constantly chasing what’s next.

I’m still learning this one.

Because the creator in me wants to CREATE.
The business owner in me apparently has emails, invoices, planning and admin to do.

But I’m learning to honour both…. Because Marama Flax Creations wasn’t built just from what my hands can create.

It’s being built through every little lesson I’m learning along the way.

🌱 The most important wall in our studio.

We recently rearranged our flower wall, but it’s so much more than a wall full of beautiful flowers.

Because before there is a creation, there is each individual flower.

Every flower carries its own meaning. Its own colour, texture, shape and symbolism. Some represent aroha, remembrance, strength, new beginnings, friendship, joy or connection.

When we create, it’s not just about what looks beautiful together. It’s about the person receiving it, the story behind it and choosing flowers that can help tell that story.

That’s what makes this wall so important to us.

Hundreds of individual flowers, each carrying something of their own, waiting to become part of someone else’s story.

🌱 Meet Moana

Our handcrafted Pāua Floral Arrangements are created as a beautiful blend of ocean taonga and preserved blooms and harakeke. Each piece begins with a stunning pāua shell and is thoughtfully designed to reflect your chosen colour palette and style.

Whether you are drawn to calming blues, earthy greens, soft pastels, vibrant florals, or rich natural tones, we can create a bloom that feels uniquely yours. Every arrangement is one of a kind, celebrating the natural beauty of pāua while honouring your personal vision.

A meaningful gift, keepsake, or decorative taonga, designed to bring beauty, connection, and a touch of nature into any space.

When did you last spend an evening on something that was just for you? 🌱

No to-do list. No one needing anything. Just you, a cuppa in your hand, flowers in front of you, and a couple of quiet hours to slow down and make something beautiful to keep.

That’s what our Spring Floral Letter Workshop is, a beautiful spring evening in the studio, creating your very own floral letter keepsake.

Using a mix of harakeke (flax), spring dried and preserved flowers, foliage and natural textures, you’ll design a piece that’s completely unique to you. Choose your initial, select your blooms, and enjoy the process of making an everlasting arrangement to take home and treasure.

Our evenings are all about slowing down, enjoying the moment, and connecting with others while creating with flowers. Perfect for a girls evening, a creative escape, or simply taking some time for yourself.

Included in your workshop:
• Your chosen floral letter base
• Harakeke (flax)
• A beautiful selection of spring dried and preserved flowers and foliage
• A guided grounding ceremony to settle into a creative state
• All materials needed to create your design
