JULY BIRTHSTONE: RUBY

Rubies are amongst the most sought after gemstones. Their deep red colour, often tinged with purple, reflects lifegiving blood and passion. CARE FOR YOUR PRECIOUS JEWELLERY

There are a number of things to pay attention to.
1. Creams, lotions and perfumes can damage your jewellery. It is best to apply these well before donning your precious gems.
2. Beware of silver-dip and anti-oxidising cleaners as they can pit and damage platinum and white gold alloys. Remember that most precious stones in rings are mounted in platinum. Using such cleaners may lead to loss of stones! It is recommended to use warm soapy water to soak your rings, then clean with a soft toothbrush - paying special attention to the rear of each stone. Always dry with unscented white tissue and finish the job by storing your jewels safely!
3. Even custom made boxes can damage jewellery - these are often made of leatherette that contains plastic and glues. The best method is to store items individually in small plastic ziploc bags - these ensure gems are not rubbing against each other or the metal in your collection.
4. Always insure your valuables. For added security, take photos of your valuables when you are wearing them.

BLUE MOON 31/5/26

This coming Full Moon is the second in the calendar month of May and, as such, is designated a Blue Moon. It will reach its peak at 08.45 AM GMT. It is a micromoon – meaning it is at its furthest distance from earth, and will appear smaller and paler than other full moons.
Besides being a Blue Moon, this month’s second Full Moon occurs on the most sacred day of the Buddhist Calendar: Saka Dawa Duchen. This Festival commemorates Buddha Shakyamuni’s Birth, Enlightenment and Paranirvana (Death). It is said that positive actions performed on this day are multiplied 100 million times – a great day for clearing some of our negative karma!

As usual, remember to leave out your crystals for charging in the moonlight.
