My logo, banner, website, flyers, booklets, and promotional material might not be perfect....but I made them.
I'm not a graphic designer by trade, but over the years I've taught myself enough Photoshop to create the things I need for my business, and I've genuinely enjoyed the process. Every poster, flyer, and social media graphic has been an opportunity to learn something new.
Having a few graphic designers and artists in my life, I can also see where AI is heading. While AI-generated imagery can be fast, convenient, and tempting for busy business owners, it's worth considering the broader impact. The more we rely on automated content, the more we risk reducing opportunities for the talented creatives who have spent years developing their skills.
If you can, support your local graphic designers, artists, photographers, and creatives. Their work brings personality, originality, and a human touch that can't always be replicated by an algorithm.
And if hiring a designer isn't within your budget, don't be afraid to have a go yourself. Learning new skills, making mistakes, and developing your own style can be incredibly rewarding.
My timeline is full of AI generated and Canva made posters at the moment. While many look polished, a lot of them feel very similar. They often lack the little quirks, imperfections, and individual flair that make a business feel unique.
Technology isn't going away, and AI certainly has its place. But I hope we don't lose sight of the value of human creativity along the way. 🐍💚
