Meet Barney and Betty, the mummy and daddy Grey Shrikethrush. Barney and Betty built a nest in a hanging basket on our verandah at our home in Binalong, NSW.

We have been keeping an eye on Barney and Betty, they worked hard to build a safe little home to have their babies, singing while they worked on their little place.

Soon after they moved in, three little eggs appeared in their nest. Mummy would leave and get herself some food, then daddy would sit in the nest. They sing so one another know they’re close and never leave the nest too long.

Today, two of the three eggs hatched, and now Barney and Betty take turns feeding their babies.

I’ll keep you posted on how Barney and Betty’s little family progresses. The pathetic pot plant now has a new purpose!

From a scrappy looking geranium in a hanging basket to a little house with new little chicks.

To think I was thinking about chucking the plant —— Barney and Betty could have ended up somewhere dangerous.
