Fresh from our recent Ansett Viscount post, we’re continuing the story of one of the aircraft types that helped define Australian domestic air travel in the 1950s and 1960s, this time in the colours of Trans Australia Airlines (TAA).

VH-TVM “John Fawkner” was delivered to TAA in 1958, while VH-TVP “John Gould” represented the later and more powerful Viscount 816 series. Together, these aircraft represent an era when the Viscount was one of the defining types flying across Australia's domestic airline network.
The Viscount was enormously important to both TAA and Ansett, becoming one of the most recognisable aircraft of Australia's famous Two Airlines Policy era. For passengers, the turboprop offered a major step forward in speed, comfort and smoothness compared with the piston-engine airliners it replaced.
