Qantas have their 7th A321XLR on the way, and Inflight200 are already onto their 3rd model!

This time it's a special livery for VH-OGG "Coral Sea." The design celebrates Qantas’ long-term partnership with the Great Barrier Reef Foundation. It features sea turtles, clownfish and coral from the reef, rendered in bold, bright colours across the fuselage.

This 1:200 scale Airbus A321XLR is made from diecast metal and includes removeable magnetic landing gear and a display stand. It is due to arrive in August.

We've recently had massive news, with GeminiJets finally getting the rights to make a licensed model of Qantas Boeing 787-9 VH-ZND "Yam Dreaming" in 1:400 and 1:200 scale. This is a great result for Qantas (who get royalties), the Balarinji Group (who also get royalties) and collectors, who get the most accurate depiction of this model, yet.

The 1:400 scale model is due in June, with the 1:200 scale model due in August. Both are made from diecast metal, with the 1:200 model including magnetic removable landing gear and a display stand.

It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly 2 years since Qantas Freight stopped flying their 767 freighter VH-EFR. And 11 years since mainline Qantas withdrew passenger 767’s from service!

NG Lite Models: Air India A350-900

Air India's new livery on the A350 is certainly effective, and NG Models' newer line of "Lite" models are effective on the wallet!

Removing antenna and certain smaller detail printing from the model allows for much budget friendly pricing, and it still stands out as a good quality 1/400 diecast model.

One of the rarer 747 variants, this Boeing 747-300 was delivered to Singapore Airlines as 9V-SKA in April 1983. After a decade with SQ, it was transferred to Ansett International and re-registered VH-INH to help assist with Ansett’s international route expansion.

This aircraft was famously involved in the nose gear incident at Sydney Airport in 1994, when it failed to fully extend prior to landing. With the crew failing to get it locked in position, it collapsed upon landing. After two months, it was repaired and returned to service. Inflight200 are re-tooling their Boeing 747 models, which will see them having magnetic removable landing gear amongst other minor improvements.

Air Niugini A300 Bird of Paradise – New 1:400 scale Mould

It’s been nearly two years since we first became aware Yu Models were making a brand new diecast metal Airbus A300 mould in 1:400 scale. Well, the wait is finally over and first cab off the ranks is the beautiful Air Niugini Airbus A300 in the special “Bird of Paradise” livery.

With overcapacity becoming an issue in the domestic Australian market, TAA leased their first A300, VH-TAA, to Air Niugini in 1984 as P2-ANG. After nearly five years based out of Papua New Guinea, she returned to TAA, but this time as ‘Australian Airlines.’ With nearly another decade at Australian Airlines and Qantas, this aircraft was converted to a freighter and managed to grind out another decade flying freight in the US then the UAE.

TINY PLANES, BIG NAMES: A ROYAL VISIT

Despite a hectic schedule during their visit to Melbourne, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made sure they put aside time to visit Australia’s largest model aircraft shop; Collectors Aircraft Models Australia.

Harry spent most of his time retelling stories of his time in the army as an AH-64 Apache pilot. After personally opening and examining every helicopter model in the shop, he concluded that the MRH-90 Taipan stood out as the most robust and well-engineered option, one that would undoubtedly endure well beyond 15 years.

Meghan could not believe the extensive range of thousands of different aircraft models on offer. She spoke fondly of the 40 year old F/A-18 classic hornets the RCAF purchased off Australia to spite their southern neighbours. She later picked out a Delta Airlines model as she thought it was Air Canada.

After requesting a discount, they were politely asked to leave.
