🔴 Red Bin or 🔵 Blue Bin?

A customer named Tony recently sent through these photos after a redclaw session and I thought they were too good not to share.
Both bins came from the same trip, same waterway, same bait mix (a smorgasbord of mandarins, pumpkin, dog biscuits and a few other fruit scraps), and the same amount of effort.

The difference?
🔴 Red Bin = 4 traditional opera house traps
🔵 Blue Bin = 4 Clawzilla 60cm 4-Entry Redclaw Pots

Now, every trip is different and redclaw don't always read the script, but it's always great to receive feedback from customers who are putting the Clawzillas to work and seeing solid results.

One thing Tony asked was to keep his location a secret, so unfortunately that's staying under wraps. 🤐

Lake Somerset first timers. 🦞🔥

Sometimes all someone needs is a couple of helpful tips to get started with redclawing. Darryl picked up a few pointers this week and within 24 hours had his pots in the water at Somerset.

It was only an overnight soak using rockmelon, potato, chicken drumsticks and cat food, but the results spoke for themselves — around 30 nice redclaw with the best depth sitting around 3.5 metres.

Australia Day for me is being on the land and water — fishing, hunting, respecting the seasons and taking only what we need. This country was created to be shared and cared for, and that’s something that matters no matter where you come from.

We don’t all agree on everything, and that’s fine. We still share this place, and we can live alongside each other with respect and pride in our country.

Grateful for this land, the lifestyle it gives us, and the freedom to live it.

Howdy redclaw hunters!

It’s been a long time between drinks, but I finally got back out there. I recently took my youngest on an adventure to Somerset Dam. With the recent rain and a full moon, I had a feeling the redclaw might be moving.

We’d never clawed this area before, but after sounding out a few likely spots, we spread our pots over a couple of kilometres, chasing drop-offs, underwater structure and w**d beds. Pots went down anywhere from about 2.5 to 8 metres.
For bait, we used three different setups: some high-dispersal - chook pellets, a bit of cat food stuffed into a PVC pipe, and a bait cage loaded with leftover fatty meat. Nothing fancy—just good, cheap bait that gets the job done.

Then came the best part: pulling the pots. That first lift always gets the heart going. The first pot came up with 35 solid redclaw, and every pot after that had good quality claws—except for the deepest one at 8 metres, which had absolutely nothing in it. All up we finished with just over 80 redclaw, all a really nice, consistent size.

As usual, the Captain Claw 60 cm round 4 entry pots did the heavy lifting, pulling most of the better-sized ones. Absolute weapons of a pot.

It was great to get back into them, and Christmas lunch is now officially sorted. Hope you’re all getting out there and finding a few yourselves.
