I was thinking about life and how small 1 lifetime seems compared to the grand scheme of things. We're so small in comparison. Obviously not true, but cats are said to have "9 lives." I think even 9, by the end of your last one in the world as it is, would feel it went by just as quick as if you only lived one... so the cat is made of glass to symbolise the fragile nature of life, regardless of how long it may be. Transparent and fleeting. Inside is the land we live and love in and return to in the end. And space is large and unending, unlike us. So it envelops the glass cat. I know I'm only 27, so still young as others would see me. But I can't help but feel like I didn't get to hold onto childhood long enough, I wasn't done with it yet before time decided it wasn't mine to have anymore. The universe keeps moving forward whether you're ready or not.

Octopi are one of the smartest animals in the world did you know? They're also very cheeky and very cute. Did you know that one aquarium kept noticing fish missing each from different tanks each morning, when checking security footage of entrances, there was no evidence to show that anyone had been in or out of the store? So they put up surveillance on the fish tanks themselves and found that an octopus they had, in a separate tank, would open his lid, squeeze out and then open the lids of the other fish tanks and eat some of the fish, close their lids, then go back into his tank and close the lid. It's estimated that they can have the inelegance of a human 8yo by the end of their lifespan. If you haven't seen the documentary "my octopus teacher" you should. It is a little sad at the end, but over all it's very beautiful. Amazing creatures. Anyway, it was after watching that documentary that inspired me to draw this little piece. A happy little Cephalopod admiring a pretty flower. ^~^ ଳ

I wanted to work on motion in clothing, such as ruffles, lace, frills, ribbon, etc... As well as try out a couple new techniques for drawing flowers I'd stumbled upon. So, I decided to put it all into one big fantastical artwork. I didn't have much of a plan, I just wanted to see where it took me, and I was getting more and more excited as I kept developing and having ideas. It turned out so much better than I anticipated. In my original work (not the scan of it seen here) I used some iridescent, gold paint on some of the features as well as some glitter paint on a few odds and ends, which sadly don't show up in a scan. But it was awesome. You can still see that on my IG post, on my art page .artz if you want to check out the shimmer. Even so, I think it still looks quite magical here! I hope you love it! this one, I wanted to work on using multiple colours to display light. I've always loved how light bounces and plays in the ripples of water, like a muted collider scope dispersed in blue. I also love how graceful stingrays and manta rays are as they glide through the waters, but they also feel other worldly to me. Not only that, but I had also just read a fascinating article titled "The Manta Ray’s Filtration System—Was It Designed?" on Jw.org. Did you know?
Manta rays filter food by swimming with their mouths open to take in seawater and plankton, which then passes through five arch-like structures lined with comb shaped lobes angled both forward and backward. The lobes then split the flow of water, creating tiny whirlpools!!! That cause plankton, even those smaller than the gaps, to ricochet off the lobes and rebound into a faster moving stream that directs them to the throat for swallowing, while the water continues right on through the filter and out their gills. Not only that, but the entire system never gets clogged and is self-cleaning, no matter how fast they swim or the amount of plankton. Researchers hope to copy principles from the ray’s filtering mechanism to design filters that could clean wastewater and extract harmful microplastic particles. don't know about you, but sometimes I just get these really cool images pop into my mind, and I'm like..... I NEED TO TRY AND DRAW THAT! This was one of those occasions. I don't know what made me think of it or what my inspiration was haha XD my brain just put her in my head and I thought it was cool, so I had to put it to paper! I hope you like her! ALTHOUGH!!! Funny story. I wasn't initially going to have her arms crossed over like that. However, I accidentally drew her hands back to front XD so to make it work and not need to redraw the hands all over again, since I was happy with their composition, I decided I'd just work her arms differently (since I hadn't done them yet). I think it ended up working out better because of it, though. Gives her more dynamic energy.

Sorry I've been inactive lately, I'm in the middle of moving house! But just before I started moving I began a little project that I'll complete after the move 🤭 but here's a sneak peak.... So, I haven't finished the pictures yet. HOWEVER, I have completed the story. It's called Mali bakes a cake: A lesson in patience. 🥰 When I publish it, I'll have to sell it in a different platform, perhaps amazon, as red bubble doesn't print books other than notebooks. But it's still from me! Keep your eyes open for the release!

Honestly! This one turned out way better than I expected it to 😍😍😍

Did you know? The ray’s filtering system looks like five arches, which resemble double-sided combs. Some of the combs’ teeth, or lobes, angle forward and some backward. These lobes separate the seawater, forcing some to flow above the lobes and some to flow between the lobes, creating tiny whirlpools.When plankton or other food particles strike the leading edge of the lobes, they rebound into the faster moving stream and end up in the ray’s throat, where they can be swallowed. Even plankton small enough to fit between the lobes are carried into the ray’s throat because the whirlpools accelerate their travel, forcing them to ricochet into the stream. This filtration system allows the ray to capture particles that could have otherwise passed through the gaps between the lobes and back out into the seawater.

In addition, the manta ray’s filter-feeding system resists clogging and is self-cleaning, regardless of how fast the ray swims or how heavily concentrated the plankton are in the water.

Researchers hope to copy principles from the ray’s filtering mechanism to design filters that could clean wastewater and extract harmful microplastic particles.
