Ixora is the flowering hedge plant most people walk straight past. Gold Fire, Coral Fire and Prince of Orange all do the same job, they just don't do it in the same colour. Glossy dense foliage between flushes, happy as a low border or a feature shrub. Tell us which colour you'd plant.

Five plants we recommend on repeat, and not one of them is a maybe.

South East Queensland is a lot to ask of a garden. Humidity, storms that dump a month of rain in an afternoon, weeks of hot sun, then nothing at all. Plenty of plants cope for a season. These five actually hold up.

They're what we point people to almost every week, because they do the job you bought them for. A hedge that stays dense. A screen that gets there fast. A bushy, lush groundcover that fills a bed properly instead of leaving you with mulch gaps and a gap in the budget every spring.

Swipe through for where each one belongs, how far apart to plant a screen, and the one thing people usually get wrong with these plants.

Ficus is a family, not a plant.

Most people meet the fiddle leaf first and assume that's the whole story. The rubber plant, the weeping fig and the creeping fig are all in there too, and they're completely different to live with.

It's why ficus is having such a moment. The right one doesn't read as a plant in the corner, it reads as furniture. Instant height, instant fill, and none of the four hundred bucks a bookshelf would've cost you.

The one rule that applies across the whole family: pick the spot before you buy, then leave it there. Ficus like knowing where they live.

Swipe through to find the one that suits your corner, then send this to whoever's been eyeing off a big green plant for theirs.

Don't panic! Crispy, brown tips don't mean your plant is dying. 🪴

In most cases, it comes down to three simple things:

Watering habits: Soil moisture check over strict schedules, every single time.

Air quality: Keep plants away from heaters and harsh draughts.

Tap water sensitivity: Minerals and additives can build up over time. Try filtered water or rainwater instead.

Pro-tip: You can trim away the crispy edges with clean scissors. Just follow the natural shape of the leaf to keep it looking fresh!

Everyone wants gardenias until they realise how huge the bush gets.

Meet Gardenia Florida. It gives you all the iconic, fragrant white blooms you want, but tops out around 1 meter tall.

Because it’s naturally compact and evergreen, it keeps your walkways and borders looking sharp all year round with zero winter gaps.

Drop a 🌸 in the comments if you love gardenias, or let us know: where in your yard would you plant a low border like this?

Bringing home a new plant is the best feeling, but keeping it thriving past week one requires a bit of strategy. Swipe through for the ultimate beginner care checklist to set your new green additions up for success.

Here is the quick breakdown:

Pest Check: Always inspect your current collection before adding anyone new. You want to keep pests away from your fresh arrivals.
Find the Light: "Bright indirect light" does not mean frying them in harsh afternoon sun. Check the tag first.
Give Them Time: Hold off on repotting immediately. Let them acclimate to your space for a few weeks after the car ride home.
The Knuckle Test: Avoid overwatering. Poke a finger two knuckles deep into the soil. If it is dry, water it. If it is damp, leave it alone.
Keep it Balanced: Rotate the pot every few weeks so they grow straight instead of leaning heavily toward the window.
Clean the Leaves: Wipe away dust with a damp cloth so they can actually photosynthesise properly.
