4:15pm - Severe Thunderstorm Warning

The BOM has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for both the Darling Downs/Granite Belt and Southeast Coast forecast districts.

The BOM warns severe thunderstorms are developing about the southern interior and southeast.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Maranoa and Warrego and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts. Locations which may be affected include Roma, Tara, Injune, Miles and Surat.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the Southeast Coast district. Locations which may be affected include Brisbane and Samford.

On current radar moderate to heavy rainfall is currently moving across Beerburrum down to the Brisbane C*D while moderate rainfall is moving across the Scenic Rim, Brisbane’s west and down to the Good Coast Hinterland.

Please exercise caution on the roads during this afternoon’s commute and please if it’s flooded forget it and turn around don’t drown.

7:25am - Updated Severe Weather Warning For The South East Coast District

The BOM continues to issue a severe weather warning for the Southeast Coast District this morning with the following details:

Weather Situation: A southerly wind change is crossing the border into the South East Coast this morning and will slowly move north during the day. This combined with high atmospheric moisture and humid onshore flow is likely to produce persistent rainfall over parts of the South East Coast today, particularly likely to from later this morning

HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is forecast to develop about the South East Coast from this morning. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 50 to 90 mm are likely, with isolated higher falls to around 150 mm possible.

A separate Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued if VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORMS with INTENSE RAINFALL are detected.

A separate Flood Watch and various Flood Warnings are current at the time of issue. Please check https://www.bom.gov.au/weather-and-climate/warnings-and-alerts for latest information.

Locations which may be affected include Gold Coast, Brisbane, Maroochydore, Caboolture, Coolangatta, Ipswich, Noosa Heads, Cleveland and Jimboomba.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning - Southeast Queensland
for HEAVY RAINFALL
For people in parts of Somerset, Lockyer Valley, Brisbane City, Moreton Bay and Toowoomba Council Areas.

Issued at 5:57 pm Thursday, 12 February 2026.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 5:50 pm, severe thunderstorms likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding were detected near the area south of Esk, the area southwest of Esk, the area northwest of Esk and the D'Aguilar Ranges. These thunderstorms are moving towards the northeast. They are forecast to affect Esk, Lake Samsonvale and northern Lake Wivenhoe by 6:20 pm and Caboolture, southern Lake Wivenhoe and Narangba by 6:50 pm.

39 mm was recorded at Mooga Hills in the 30 minutes to 4:20 pm.

46 mm was recorded at Tara Lagoon in the 30 minutes to 3:27 pm

Severe Thunderstorm Warning - Southeast Queensland
for HEAVY RAINFALL
For people in parts of Somerset, Toowoomba and Lockyer Valley Council Areas.

Issued at 5:14 pm Thursday, 12 February 2026.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 5:10 pm, a severe thunderstorm likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding was detected near Toowoomba and the area south of Toowoomba. This thunderstorm is moving towards the northeast. It is forecast to affect the area north of Toowoomba, Grantham and Murphy's Creek by 5:40 pm and Gatton, Crows Nest and the area southwest of Esk by 6:10 pm.

39 mm was recorded at Mooga Hills in the 30 minutes to 4:20 pm.

46 mm was recorded at Tara Lagoon in the 30 minutes to 3:27 pm

12:45pm - Severe Weather Warning Issued For South East Queensland

The BOM has now issued a severe weather warning for south east Queensland with the BOM warning of the following:

Weather Situation: A southerly wind change will move into the South East Coast overnight Thursday into Friday morning, before stalling over the Wide Bay and Burnett during Friday afternoon/evening. Meanwhile, an approaching mid-level trough combines with high atmospheric moisture and humid onshore flow to produce persistent rainfall over parts of the South East Coast, southern Wide Bay and Burnett and eastern Darling Downs and Granite Belt from Thursday evening.

HEAVY, LOCALLY INTENSE RAINFALL which may lead to DANGEROUS AND LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODING is forecast to develop about the South East Coast from late Thursday evening, extending inland to southern Wide Bay and Burnett and eastern Darling Downs and Granite Belt during Friday morning. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 50 to 90 mm are likely, with isolated higher falls to around 150 mm possible.

A separate Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued if VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORMS with INTENSE RAINFALL are detected.
