The Bardon Book Shed To Close In April
In our second piece of big news for 2023: It is the end of an era. After 9 years at Bardon, of which the 24 hour shed has been running night and day for 8 and a half, the shed will fall dark and empty of books this April.
It is with mixed feelings I make this announcement. When the shed first went 24 hours I did not have any expectations, and it has been an amazing experience watching it become a special place for so many, myself included.
For countless people the book shed has become a sanctuary and more. The extent of the shed's impact I can never know, and I think therein lies the secret to its magic.
For me, through the shed I have been able to handle millions of books I would never otherwise have encountered or given the time of day, and for this I am incredibly grateful. I can attribute much of the book knowledge I have gleaned over most of the past decade to the opportunities the book shed has given me.
However all good things come to an end. It is mainly the neverending barrage of rent increases to the point of ridiculousness and my waning energy to fight against them which has made this decision, but it is also time for several reasons.
The final day of the Bardon 24 Hour Book Shed will be April 10. Still plenty of time to stop by once, twice, or thrice more. Donations of books at the shed will still be accepted up until March 31, and from April clearing will begin in earnest. More news to come as the date draws nearer.
It's not all coming to an end however. Operations at West End continue as usual, and the announcement of a date for our first rare book auction draws near!
