Ok, I admit it, I got carried away. But there’s no reason why the underside of the table frame shouldn’t be as beautiful as everything else. You just have to lie on the floor under the table to see it. But I’ll know and the clients will know and really, that’s all that matters.

Looking pretty swanky. Now for the upper frame to connect the base to the dining table top. I’m really loving doing this kind of joinery, it’s so satisfying.

Sometimes you get an opportunity to break out the Japanese saws and nice Narex chisels and do proper joinery. Now to tidy up these sections to make sure the legs fit nice and snug. Then it’s the glue up from hell to get everything set correctly and as secure as possible. joinery

This pair of footstools are grain matched mitred ironbark bases and genuine long hair sheepskin tops. Upholstery by the amazing Harry Taylor Upholstery and timber by me. Idea from the client but you know, sometimes they have to pull their weight too 😂

Template routing is terrifying at the best of times. Doubly so on these table legs. No fence or guard possible, massive compression bit, spinning at a billion rpm, you really have to take care. But, i got it done, all the layout on the base is ready, now for some very complicated hand cut joinery for the strongest joints I can figure out how to make. Then what can only be described as the glue up from hell.

Oooooo, a circle. A giant circle that’s way too heavy but still a circle. Thanks to a bit of ingenuity from me to cobble together a circle cutting jig that would do a 1600mm diameter circle, my trusty of2200 router from Festool Australia and an absolutely incredible compression bit from Boutique Woodworking Suppliers. Slabs from Hammer Roo too. Couldn’t do it without them! This jarrah dining table for Amy McKay and Patrick McKay is really taking shape. commission

One completed entertainment unit with rolling library ladder made out of solid jarrah. Looking fabulous if I do say so myself.

Well that came up beautifully. After I’d dealt with the rollercoaster floors that Amy McKay and Patrick McKay have, this entertainment unit slotted together like a dream. Middle drawer left out so all the cables etc can be hidden. IKEA Australia Besta units with custom jarrah tops and accent timber by me and a library ladder rail from Ram Hardware Australia . now I have accurate rail measurements, I can build the custom ladder for this library/entertainment unit. Step one in this massive jarrah furniture package, pretty much done.

Just quietly, f$&k you IKEA Australia. Every single “easy peel label” has been this kind of hot mess. Whoever came up with these and put them on everything should be beaten with a stick. For eternity.

It’s all good here! Panel glue ups are looking great. Never enough clamps of course so they’re being done in batches. 😂🙄
