Way Dynamic, the solo project of Melbourne’s Dylan Young, will soon release internationally Massive Shoe – a third album that’s playful and understated, luminous and textured. Massive Shoe is minimalist folk-pop, art rock and baroque pop, produced and largely played by Young, who moonlights in Melbourne’s beloved Cool Sounds and Good Morning and has played drums with Snowy Band and Kankawa Nagarra.

It’s tempting to only compare these songs to those of yesteryear – Young’s falsetto, his ear for harmonies and the intricate arrangements all feel timeless. But there’s a sensibility, a turn of phrase, that feels deeply contemporary: it’s telling that Waxahatchee’s Katie Crutchfield described “Miffed It” as her “favourite song in a VERY long time”, and Katie, MJ Lenderman, This is Lorelei and Black Country New Road have all taken Way Dynamic on tour, while Sir Elton John said that he “just cannot stop listening” to “Ibiza”. Young’s songs don’t shy away from sentiment, or equally from silliness: on any given song he might suggest a flight to space or earnestly lament a miscommunication. “Can we walk and talk as well?” he asks on “I Was the Dancer”, and we rush to accept the invitation.

Sitting at the core of Melbourne’s burgeoning movement of cinematic instrumental soul, Karate Boogaloo’s roots go deep into the fabric of the DIY soul idiom.

A mainstay of the Melbourne underground for longer than a decade, their now sought-after three-volume ‘KB’s Mixtapes’ series, two original LPs and collaboration with US singer Danielle Ponder are evidence of their long-standing contribution to the city’s cinematic soul sound.

This four piece seeks inspiration from the great small combo instrumental bands à la Booker T & The MG’s and The Meters. Coming off of a booming tour of Europe with College Of Knowledge label mates Surprise Chef in 2025, 2026 will see new music from Karate Boogaloo released via Colemine Records (US) and College Of Knowledge Records (AU) as well as some relentless touring!

🎷Happily hitting the road with our pal #1 Dads ( #1 Dad) this Spring. A brand new record to celebrate, in solo mode and with some special guests in beautiful pockets around the country! Tix on sale Thursday, 10am :-)

#1 Dads is the solo project of Tom Iansek, a valuable, proudly independent fixture of the Australian music scene for over two decades as one half of the multi-award-winning Big Scary and No Mono, and an in-demand producer (Maple Glider, Kate Miller-Heidke, The Paper Kites, Ruby Gill, Lisa Mitchell, and more).
Animated by intimate, understated arrangements and lyrical honesty, #1 Dads is a perfect introduction to Iansek’s sonic authenticity and rich, rewarding music. His gentle melodies and less-is-more production make for homely yet sophisticated pop songs that have seen the Australian-born, London-based artist become an unassuming cult favourite, beloved with fans and critics alike.

Debuting as #1 Dads with 2011’s Man of Leisure, Iansek further showcased his sincere, quietly innovative songcraft with 2014’s ARIA-nominated About Face and 2020’s Golden Repair. Born of a period of dramatic upheaval, Every Little Fire is the Melbourne-bred, London-based artist’s most deeply personal record

Every Little Fire, the fourth #1 Dads album, due October 16 via Pieater. PRE-SAVE EVERY LITTLE FIRE HERE. https://1dads.lnk.to/EveryLittleFire

The record arrives six years after 2020’s Golden Repair and follows a period of profound personal upheaval - a transatlantic relocation, a growing family, the particular vertigo of dismantling one life and building another from scratch. “It was not an easy thing to do,” Iansek says. “It has been an insane, wonderful, chaotic, intense and joyful period of my life.” Every Little Fire, in both title and ex*****on, takes that turbulence seriously.

Produced and mixed by Iansek himself, in small rooms, including a DIY bedroom studio, Every Little Fire reflects the conditions of its making. Imperfections were left in. Longer, unvarnished takes. Tempo fluctuations. Breaths. The result is an album that sounds handmade in the best sense: intimate without being precious, and honest without being confessional for its own sake.

Mimi Gilbert is an independent artist who has spent the better part of the last 10 years living, touring and creating music in Australia and the US. Previously based in Melbourne now back in Ojai/ Los Angeles, the Californian born has toured most recently with Julia Jacklin and Angie McMahon and shares a similarly deeply-crafted, folk-inflected approach to their songwriting.

Pronounced ‘the best kept secret in the music industry’ by Double J - Australia, Mimi established themself as a talented singer and guitarist capable of ruminative insight and quietly devastating song-craft, inviting comparisons to Laura Marling and Big Thief’s Adrianne Lenker. The album left deep ripples among many, picking up accolades such as Double J and FBi Radio Feature album and noted by NME as one of their ‘Top 10 album picks’ in 2020.

Earlier this year, Mimi joined Ruby Gill for a co-headline tour of South Africa and Australia where Mimi shared songs from their debut record “Grew Inside the Water’ and most recent ‘undrowning.’

Flyte (UK) is the project of English songwriters Will Taylor and Nick Hill. The pair met at secondary school, eventually settling in Hackney, London. Taylor’s parents were both English teachers and inevitably, various literary influences trickled into the duo’s music- the band taking it’s name from Sebastian Flyte of Evelyn Waugh’s Brideshead Revisited.

To make their fourth album, Between You and Me, Flyte—Will Taylor and Nick Hill—set out to return to something raw and instinctual. Just weeks before joining legendary producer Ethan Johns (Paul McCartney, Laura Marling, Ray LaMontagne) in his rural studio, the duo began writing at a small window table in Taylor’s North East London flat. They wanted to see what would happen if they didn’t overthink their songs, if they simply sang about their lives in the moment—candid reflections on love, fallibility, and staying vulnerable. They didn’t fuss over demos or arrangements; they just wanted to capture the feelings. They knew Johns thrived on intuition, so they let that sensibility guide them from the beginning.

The result, Between You And Me, is the most affecting and singular album in Flyte’s discography, a stirring and recognisable map of what it means to come of age as musicians, friends, and people. It suggests just how much one can grow, sprouting even from the darker corners of our existence
