Captured here, a young Valda and Don Banfield stand with their growing family in Tincurrin - a small wheatbelt community near Narrogin. Life on the land shaped their resilience, but after years of unpredictable seasons and fluctuating markets, the family made the difficult decision to leave in 1985.⁠

What followed was an unexpected turn - one that would ultimately lead them north to Broome. Through a chance connection with Lord McAlpine, a new opportunity emerged, setting the Banfield family on a path that would evolve into something far beyond what they could have imagined.⁠

The magnificent Pinctada maxima - the world’s largest pearl oyster ✨⁠

This incredible creature thrives in the warm, nutrient-rich waters of North West Australia. Living on the ocean floor at depths of up to 20 metres, these bivalve molluscs are perfectly adapted to their environment. Their name reflects their status: ‘Pinctada’ meaning pearl-producing and ‘maxima’ meaning large. ⁠
