Plastic-Free July
DAY 28 - Microbeads are pieces of plastic smaller than 5mm which are added to skin care and cleaning products as an abrasive or exfoliant. They are in toothpaste, scrubs and so much more. The label may list natural ingredients such as apricot kernel, coconut and pumice but they don't have to tell you about the microplastics. 'Organic certification' won't allow plastic to be added so this is a great way to avoid it. Check out the supplier and make sure they tell you what isn't in their product, don't just read the label. The Queensland government will be banning microbeads from 1st Sept 2023, but you can stop buying those products now and stop polluting our oceans.
