What a beautiful way to spend Motherโ€™s Day in Canberra ๐Ÿ’›

Earlier today we gathered outside in Green Square for the launch of Learning You By Heart by Sarah Wallace and illustrated by Michelle Conn โ€” surrounded by sunshine, families, bubbles, books and the joyful buzz of Kingston on a perfect autumn morning.

Sarahโ€™s gorgeous new picture book is a tender love song from a parent to their child, and there could not have been a more fitting setting to celebrate it than outdoors with so many children and caregivers joining us.

A huge thank you to Sarah for such a warm and heartfelt event, and to everyone who came along to celebrate Motherโ€™s Day with us at The Book Cow.

Some days remind us just how lucky we are to spend our time surrounded by books, writers and readers ๐Ÿ“šโœจ

Last Friday was an absolute event marathon for The Book Cow โ€” three very different events in one day, and every one of them thoughtful, moving and a lot of fun.

We began at UNSW Canberra in Reid for the launch of Tiwi war kwampini: Mwarlapwara kangi tingati (Tiwi War Hero: Footprints in the Sand) โ€” a powerful new bilingual childrenโ€™s book by Mavis Kerinaiua, created with support from Laura Rademaker and published by the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. Laura helped launch this important story, which shares the remarkable contribution of Tiwi people during World War II and brings an often-overlooked part of Australian history to young readers.

Then it was off to the Canberra Writers Festival for an unforgettable evening with Sarah Wilson at The Street Theatre. Big ideas, big questions and a packed theatre made for a fascinating night as part of the festival program.

And somehow we still had enough energy left for our in-store Friday night launch of Disgraceful by Rachel Fox McLeod, in conversation with Emma Grey โ€” a warm, funny and deeply engaging evening with a wonderful crowd of readers filling the shop.

Three events. Three very different conversations. One very happy (and slightly exhausted!) bookshop team ๐Ÿ’›

A huge thank you to all the authors, audiences, organisers and readers who make days like this possible.

Dads.

Have you been ordered to take your children out of the house for Mother's Day?

Our launch of 'Learning You By Heart' is the perfect outing. Taking place just after you've served breakfast in bed, join The Book Cow and author Sarah Wallace at 11:30 for an hour of snacks, entertainment, and the chance to score the perfect present... a signed copy of this lyrical, thought-evoking new book.

Bring a picnic blanket, some toys, and your little ones. Let Mum choose between putting her feet up at home or joining you for storytime. There's lots of delicious coffee spots nearby! โ˜•๐Ÿฉท

We will remember them.

On this day, we direct our gratitude to all the people who have served, and do serve, our country. Life as we know it would not be the same without you, and your sacrifice should never be forgotten.

Thank you to the people who give their time, their service, and their lives to protect our community and keep us safe. We'll always hold you in our hearts.

A full house!

Congratulations to Liz Mamchak and for the launch of her new memoir, "...a figment of your imagination my dear".

Courageous, honest and unflinching - this book will encourage survivors of abuse to call out the acts of their perpetrators.

Your words will have such a big impact.

Thank you, once again, to the wonderful team at for being our hosts. The showroom was so packed that we could only snap a few photos from afar! ๐Ÿ“ธ
