Which side of Lake Burley Griffin rocks your world?
North vs South - The Battle for Canberra Heat #1 presented by Impro ACT
Friday September 11, 7pm - 8:30pm
$20 Tickets: https://www.smithsalternative.com/events/north-vs.-south-101171?

Do you choose to live North or South of Lake Burley Griffin? Which side is best? Decide with both clarity and hilarity at the ultimate annual theatre games cage fight, North vs South - The Battle for Canberra.

In this, Heat 1, you’ll be attending a secret gem of all the sessions, because the bulk of the casting has been reserved for those who have attended Impro ACT’s specialised advanced theatre game play course, so even if you’ve been to this sort of thing before, Heat 1 will have games you haven’t previously seen, and players who know how to help you bring in the weekend with laughs aplenty.

It’s the Lake of Origin laugh fest, so feel free to wear some red, if you’re from the North, and Blue if you’re from the South, and if you’re thinking you’re from the East or the West, just pick a damn side!!!

This show can be popular, so do book ahead. Any further info, contact Impro ACT [email protected]

Oooh! It's THIS Thu 13th, Fri 14th, & Sat 15th, Canberra! World Premiere full production improvised theatre show PONG inspired by the original of all video games, followed by the highly entertaining and heartwarming Love-themed Duets.

Do you have tickets, yet?

I'm so excited that this retro gaming concept has inspired Impro ACT's next double feature full production theatre event at the spiritual home of theatre in the nation's capital, Canberra REP Theatre, right in the C*D.

ACT I: PONG - inspired by truly THE original video game, played on your cathode ray TV back in the 70's, the action in this world premiere performance bounces back and forth between vignettes by various performers at the whim of a referee guiding the path of the narrative ball. Theatrical table tennis, improvised by performers handpicked by Director, Nick Byrne, who is just back from a nine-nation, fourteen-city tour of Europe, Africa, and Asia.

PONG is art meets nerd in theatre that is innovative, comedic, touching, dramatic, and relentlessly engaging.

ACT II: Duets - a truly heartwarming injection of love, combining songs, scenes, and storytelling, each moment inspired by the previous one.

Duets is a real ensemble love-in, returning to the stage after a very successful 2023 season at The Street Theatre, but with all new stories, each and every night, that will make you laugh, cry, and fall in love again.

REP Theatre has just 188 seats, so whilst you're in a full-service raked-seating environment, with comfortable foyer bar, and all you expect from a night at the theatre, it's still an intimate experience, and best book early, here: https://canberrarep.org.au/content/impro-act-pong-duets-0

Have you grabbed a deposit or package to participate in Canberra International Improv Festival - part of Improvention , before the price goes up on Friday?

ImproINvention 2026 Guest Announcement #1
Kaisa Kokko-Palmer (Finland)

The incredibly inspirational Kaisa Kokko-Palmer (Finland - photo by Susanna Hyvarinen) is our first announced guest for the exciting new 2026 festival concept! Now we’re announcing guests, registrations are going to really take off, so time to bite the bullet and get an earlybird booking number so you get the best choices of tutors.

The price of packages will go up slightly, very soon, but I’m giving you a little window before that happens. Grab a deposit or package, now: https://impro.com.au/improvention-packages/

When Kaisa first came to Improvention some years ago, it was immediately obvious I’d made one of the best guest selections ever.

She’s got all we want for this event: she’s got broad-based theatre experience and delivers workshops and performances from that real point of strength and diverse possibilities, (you absolutely will learn new stuff and have your mind and heart opened), she cares deeply about her students and respects your diversity, too, she’s full of ideas she’s passionate about and that’s contagious, she’s bringing her partner Sara, who is a great improviser, too (bonus!), she’s fot her own school in Helsinki, but travels the world doing this and knows exactly how to give you the best experience ever, and….well…, she’s from Finland, isn’t she?

I mean, if you were at the last Improvention, you know how we lost our minds and hearts to Finland, so prepare yourself for another impro-crush, and get a package or deposit to make sure you get to choose Kaisa as your tutor and show director: https://impro.com.au/improvention-packages/

Impro INvention Dec 7-13 2026
