This exhibition is an invitation to step away from the everyday and spend an evening exploring creativity with artists and photographers. Sketch a life model or try rodeo line dancing! A private collection of Czech artist Věra Červenka. Generously donated by Lenka Muchová and Pavel Sádek, this is a posthumous tribute to a beautiful love story of two Czech artist, Věra and John (Jan) Červenka. This gorgeous collection od thus, objects and collages lives in my house and keeps us in a good company 🐇🐘🐕👼🌹🏛️ collection artist #♥️

A private collection featuring beautiful toys and objects by Czech artist Věra Červenka, who lived in the Blue Mountains with her creative powerhouse husband, John Červenka. They lived in their magical house filled with John’s mechanical toys and decorated with Věra’s playful collages and oversized papier-mâché animals.

Their love story started in the theatre and became a vibrant and poetic way of life. After Věra’s passing, John threw himself into even greater creation of his brilliant mechanical toys often built on music boxes or the bases of microwaves. The Ladybug 🐞 stayed his symbol for Věra and remained part of his work.

He worked with theatre productions in Australia, creating puppet magic with his whimsical, humorous mechanical toys and props.

Lenka Muchová and Pavel Sádek inherited John’s magical kingdom and transported the majority of his toys 🧸, posters, ephemera and even a comic about female spy to Chrudim , the Museum of Toys in the Czech Republic. The toys went on this voyage 🚢 from across the world where they will remain together there and be featured in an upcoming major exhibition.

When their magical house 🪄in the Blue Mountains was being sold, my son and I were lucky to be gifted part of Věra’s collection.

Their story of intertwined love fuelled their creativity, even after her death when John created many wonderful toys when he became a ‘toy hermit’ in his magical house with his 🐈 Číči and in the company of loving friends - Lenka, a Czech puppeteer and Pavel who had a unique opportunity to work and live with John, record intimate moments, and ultimately bring his toys to his beloved home in Bohemia.

Czech Puppeteer Theatre and Community Theatre 🎭 are a proud, vibrant part of the invisible cultural heritage recognised by UNESCO.

I’m very grateful for these artists who enrich the lives of their communities and everyone who knows them.

Australia has been home to many exceptional Czech artists and their cultural tradition, skill and hard work have helped make it a better and more homely place, whether you are Czech or not. John and Vera’s warmth and storytelling really touch the heart. ♥️
