I can’t tell you how much I love packing a “just because” present. I pulled out the cute patisserie wash tape and everything ❤️🍰🥐

One of my favourite things I’ve ever heard on a podcast was Hidden Brain talking about why unexpected gifts stay with us. They don’t exist in a pattern, so our brains remember them. Like an odd-shaped piece of paper in a pile of A4. It’s still paper, so it gets filed in with all the paper, but it’s the one that when you try to shuffle them neatly together it always sticks out, so you remember it more than all the birthdays, anniversaries and gift giving moments.

I’m here to help with all the gifts, but especially the “just because” moments.

A quick note that the website is very much not up to date at the moment. There are lots of beautiful new things in store, and plenty of items online that have sold out. If you’re ever looking for something specific, just give me a call. If you’re a Shopify and stock management expert who wants to help pls call me 😂🤣🚨

Busy Town has been on high rotation at our house again, which feels fitting because I’ve been having a great time being the local version of Pickles and Huckle this week, packing orders and sending them all over Australia.

These little coin purses have become my favourite gym accessory. They’re just big enough for a key, your pass, and the essentials. No need to carry your whole life around with you.

A quick thank you, too. The last four months have been incredibly hard, and your support of our little family business has meant the world. Because of you, I’ve found myself staying open until 3pm most days anyway, so we may officially be extending our weekday hours again soon.

And for everyone asking, the “The World Needs Your Courage” flags are available for pre-order and take around a week to make by hand in Melbourne. Always happy to make it with a word that you need to be reminded of each time you see it ❤️🌈

If you scroll through the photos on my phone, you’ll find pictures of so many presents. If you searched my message history for “Can I write a card for you?” there would probably be a thousand threads.

Gift wrapping, handwritten cards, and helping people find the perfect present is genuinely one of my favourite things. Almost ten years of running a gift shop and I still remember so many of the gifts, the stories behind them, and the anxiety before we pulled it all together and popped a bow on it! When people walk into the shop and say, “I’m terrible at picking presents,” I get to smile and say, “That’s my job.”

I’m here to help this week, but we’ll be closed on Thursday. It’s our daughter’s due date, and I’ve learnt enough about grief to know that some days are for showing up, and some days are best to let yourself feel the full weight of the loss and love.

We’ll be back Friday that with beautiful gift wrapping, handwritten cards, and all the thoughtful things.

It’s me, Maggie May!

This year has asked a lot of me, and back in January I wasn’t sure what the future of would look like. But this week I’ve had a few reminders that I’m exactly where I’m meant to be.

Running a little gift shop in Melbourne might seem small, but helping people celebrate, comfort and care for one another feels important.

Cuddly gifts for your nearest and dearest! We just got a big restock of the beautiful heat packs, eye pillows and tea towels.

I always think a new heat pack is a comforting gift, it’s like sending a cuddle. Add a puzzle or a market list and you’ve got a gorgeous surprise.

I also just wanted to let everyone know we’ve only got a couple of the pear hooded towels left and they won’t be restocked. Don’t say I didn’t warn you 🍐💙😘

It’s officially comfort food season.

I was ridiculously pleased with myself this week when I pulled a batch of frozen cabbage rolls out of the freezer for dinner. There’s nothing quite like thanking your past self when you’ve squirrelled away meals in advance. has a fantastic recipe in her book. I swap in minced lamb, and they’re always members of the clean plate club.

I think the start of winter is also the perfect time to check in with yourself and get some feelings onto paper.

The affirmation cards remain my absolute favourite deck. Full of kind, wise and beautiful things to say to yourself when you need them most.

Lots of cute things in the shop at the moment, I particularly love the socks which we’ve just had a restock of and the gorgeous cards. The pop up flower card isn’t huge on writing space but it’s big on vibe and ‘always in bloom’ energy.
