Born from a happy accident during the development of our true PNP Germanium + Silicon flagship "SOL" Fuzz, this limited Si-only batch captures an unexpected voice that was too good not to release. This version of our "SOL" β€” is a 100% handcrafted dual silicon fuzz, limited to very small run batches due to the labour intensive handcrafted approach with the enclosures and assembly.

The SOL draws from a lineage of cult classic fuzz combined into a two-transistor Vintage + Modern fuzz circuit, a clear nod to the Sunface/Sun Face tradition and the genius of Mike Pierra and Mike Mathews, but dont get it confused, it is NOT A MERE CLONE. This version is voiced as its own silicon-only fuzz platform: raw, touch-responsive, harmonically rich, and built around carefully chosen transistor character rather than pure parts-label mythology and marketing snobbery.

The current handcrafted version features a "VINT / MOD" (Vintage + Modern) Mode toggle:

"VINT" or "VINTAGE MODE" uses NOS BC108 Gold-Pin silicon transistors for a more classic, glassy, vintage-voiced fuzz response β€” That classic open, textured, and reactive silicon under the guitar which only gets more interesting with volume.

"MOD" or "MODERN MODE" uses "2N3904" silicon transistors for a tighter, more modern silicon voice β€” a little more controlled, focused, and far more practical for heavier or more defined modern playing. A part that is often used in boutique and iconic modern Fuzz Face-inspired circuits, most notably some Big Muff-style platforms, the ZVEX Fuzz Factory, and the fOXX Tone Machine + many more.

Inside the pedal is a meticulously thought out "6-position DIP switch bank", allowing deep surgical refinement of the fuzz behaviour, feel, and response. For the first handcrafted versions this DIP switch remains internal, keeping the enclosure clean and traditional. Our flagship GE/Si Versions and possible later limited batches may feature the same external 6-position DIP switch window, giving players direct access to those voicing options from the side of the pedal and on-the-fly operation.

The internal 6-position DIP switch opens up deep and surgical voicing options beneath the surface:

1. Bias β€” Vintage / Hot
Shifts the transistor operating point for either softer vintage response or a hotter, more immediate fuzz feel.

2. Input β€” Dark / Open
Adjusts the front-end entry voicing, changing how much top-end and pickup interaction hits the fuzz core via impedance.

3. Gain β€” Low / High
Sets the internal fuzz density range, allowing the main FUZZ control to sit in either a more restrained or more heavily saturated operating window.

4. Output β€” Normal / Boost
Changes the handoff level from the fuzz core, giving either a traditional output range or a stronger push into the LEVEL stage, ideal for casual riffing range, or sending the signal cosmic for Solos and defined leads.

5. Sag β€” Soft / Firm
Alters the dynamic stiffness of the circuit, moving between a softer, compressed feel and a firmer, more immediate attack.

6. Voice / Texture β€” Smooth / Bite
Fine-tunes the final silicon character, adding either a smoother vintage-style edge or a more cutting, aggressive upper-harmonic bite.

The SOL fuzz is hand-built with select boutique-grade components, careful transistor selection, proper socketing/testing/bias behaviour test pads where required, and the same deep attention to mechanical and visual detail as the rest of the Oculus line. The goal is not to recreate someone else’s pedal exactly or mere clone Materia β€” it is to capture the spirit of much loved and classic vintage fuzz interaction while shaping it into a distinct modern instrument with quality of life improvements and a uniquely Oculus voice.

Controls are classic and simple:
"FUZZ" β€” gain and saturation
"LEVEL" β€” Master output volume
"VINT / MOD" β€” Toggles between BC108 Vintage silicon voice or 2N3904 Modern silicon voice
"Internal 6-position DIP switch" β€” Surgical voicing and deep dynamic response options

Visually, The SOL is minimalistic yet classy, red 125B enclosure, oxblood Davies 1470A k***s, metallic gold waterslide artwork, and a central Alchemical sun emblem as the identity and "SOL" of the pedal.

A vintage-inspired and cult classic silicon fuzz, refined for the Oculus range.

SOL β€” silicon fuzz, feature rich, handcrafted in small batches.

This week i've been stuck into a really cool restoration/relic job on an original 1972 Les Paul Custom (They go between $6k to $15k AUD depending on original parts and condition on the market nowadays). We are restoring it to historical accuracy and applying all my expertise and skill into highly detailed relic work, much of which i gained through studying deeply and learning via my mentor Dr Nitro at 8Bomb Customshop. He's worked on guitars for guys like: Jared James Nichols, John Sykes, A***n King, and loads of legendary names in the industry, working out of a humble family workshop on his farm in Belarus. His day job, as an Art restoration and heritage Art restoration expert working on Frescoes, churches, cathedrals and other heritage sites or UNESCO sites all over Europe.

In relation to guitars, his work is so threatening and detailed he's had Gibson at his throat attempting Cease and Desists and Lawsuits with no success for quite some time, HOWEVER.. there is a long line of small boutique workshop guys like this in the history of modern guitar making that have always produced incredible art and craftmanship that historically keeps Gibsons standard of quality on their toes and in check (Max Baranet, Tom Bartlett, Jaydee guitars, Leo Scala, Gil Yaron, Vasily Vaschenko, Joe Glasier and many more!)

Rather than perceiving this high quality level of work (that exists based on a collectively shared and deep passion for the same very brands historical golden age) and instead of registering us as a reason to improve, (although seeimingly being more open to it in past years) Gibson would much rather try and send litigious task forces and their legal teams after the exposing danger and threat, wasting energy and finances to do so all around the world. To no avail of course. The line of passionate and skilled luthiers who push and "enforce" this level of craftmanship over shortcuts and cost cutting factory processes always remains, albeit usually somewhat clandestine and hidden out of the mainstream as an undercurrent body separate to the household name factories and the global conglomerate versions.

(I've been posting little snippets and updates as i go along on my story and will likely put some stuff up on my instagram and my site once i get into the more detailed relic work if anyone is interested in seeing a bit of that process and the before and after results.)

After a period of reevaluation and burnout regarding my work and business and some rough times in recent months...
This process has reminded me, i really enjoy this kind of work.
If you have any need for vintage instrument restoration or want historically correct details restored to an old Gibson (or similar), any detailed relic work required, etc. Shoot me a message. Its my area of expertise and i've decided i would like to take on more of this type of work in future, in between custom commissioned orders and my Oculus Guitars Australia production spec build models of course.

OCULUS GUITARS - Heritage Classic range.

The "SOL Fuzz" β€” our tribute to the golden era of legacy transistor fuzz, reimagined through the Oculus design lens.

The SOL draws from the legacy of classic Fuzz Face / Sun Face-style circuit DNA, but more importantly from the boutique philosophy behind builders like Mike Piera of Analog Man: careful transistor selection, dialled in bias sensitivity, dynamic feel under the fingers, and the belief that a great fuzz is more than a schematic β€” it is a living interaction between guitar, circuit, amp, and player.

The sound is raw, expressive, rich and harmonically alive: warm vintage bloom, singing sustain, surgical cleanup from the guitar volume interaction, and the ability to move from softer germanium-style response into a tighter, more immediate silicon edge via the "GE / Si voice toggle".

A side-mounted 6-position DIP bank expands the tone shaping capacity within the circuit further, offering deeper control over bias feel, input response, gain range, output push, sag, and the overall clipping character. Davies 1400 k***s in gorgeous Oxblood finish complement the Antique Bronze/Gold powder coated aluminium enclosure.

This is not a generic fuzz box, and it is not intended as a straight clone. The SOL has been developed as a boutique-grade transistor platform: carefully voiced, component-conscious, visually distinct and meticulous in design, and built to work in synergy with touch, pickup choice, volume-knob control, and amp interaction.

Vintage fuzz lineage. Modern Boutique ex*****on. "The Alchemy of The SOL."

One of the big inspirations for our own Amp series launching late 2026 or early/mid 2027.
(Checkout the details at our new site oculusguitarsaustralia.com )

As a luthier, i really love the hardwood head cabinet with gorgeous figured pieces used in its design and construction (something that goes beyond the common fingerjointed ply and tolex upholstery).

The work of the late and great Ken Fischer.

Oculus Guitars β€” 5879 Head

Introducing our developing and new amplifier platform built around the unmistakable character of the 5879 pentode β€” a front-end tube chosen for its harmonic complexity, fast touch response, glassy edge, and rich texture under gain.

The 5879 Head is our flagship amplifier designed with a boutique EL34 power section in a more modern platform: articulate, aggressive, and authoritative, but still full of life and classic voices that will be familiar. The voicing direction draws inspiration from the tightness, punch, and modern gain discipline associated with world class builders like Friedman and Mike Fortin, while also taking cues from the chime, harmonic richness, and tube-forward design philosophy associated with the great Mike Zaite / Dr. Z.

At the core is a 5879 pentode preamp feeding a fixed-bias EL34 push-pull output section, with oversized β€œbig iron” transformers chosen for strong low-end control, dimensional harmonic response, and a firmer, more commanding feel. This transformer philosophy is central to the amp: more headroom, better bass authority, stronger transient response, and the kind of composure that lets the amp stay powerful without becoming stiff or sterile.
The goal is a voice that feels large, immediate, and harmonically alive β€” tight where it needs to be, but never flat. The low end stays controlled under gain, the mids remain vocal and muscular, and the top end carries chime, cut, and harmonic sparkle without becoming brittle.

The 5879's signature is voiced around two distinct gain eras:

ERA 1 mode is the open, articulate modded boutique marshall-esque rock voice β€” rich upper harmonics, vocal midrange, vintage-inspired bite, and enough bloom to keep chords dimensional. This side gravitates away from the more familiar 12ax7 triode preamp most common in an EL34 driven amplifier, and leans right into the 5879’s natural pentode chime and harmonic movement, with a more organic response and massive amounts of articulation in the midrange under the fingers.

ERA 2 mode pushes the platform further into a tighter and more aggressive modern voice β€” more saturation, firmer low-end tracking, faster attack, and a more percussive response and surgical "thump" for heavier rhythm playing and modern genres. The goal is a modern, high-authority gain structure with clarity: dense and aggressive, but not smeared, fizzy, or over-compressed.

The control set is designed around a full Bass / Mid / Treble classic (TMB) EQ, added Presence, Depth, and Post Phase Inversion Master Volume (PPIMV), and our signature front-panel "Era switching", with a rear-panel 3-way NFB control for Lo / Mid / Hi feedback response and distinct 3 in 1 amp voicing. That NFB switch alone is intended to shift the entire feel of the power section and allows tonal shaping between: looser and more open, more balanced and classic, or tighter, percussive low end and more controlled surgical response depending on the player, the speaker, the cab, and wether you want modern or vintage feel while factoring in stage volume.

A buffered effects loop is also part of the design direction, keeping the amp practical for modern pedalboards, delay, modulation, and time-based effects without compromising the core tube voice.

Visually, the 5879 Head is being designed as a boutique statement piece: each unit is handbuilt with real handcrafted premium hardwood head cabinet options, custom brushed aluminium control panels, custom chassis, custom Oculus badging, a range of custom grille variations, and a subtle internal LED glow from within the cabinet.

We also had to opt for custom and purpose built Output and Power transformers to facilitate this unique combination of tubes and to achieve the overall voicing "architecture" we desired.

The flagship Oculus Guitars 5879 Head is currently sound and electrically designed, it is currently being scaled and prepared for manufacturing and is well and truly in development with a launch set for late 2026 or early-mid 2027.

The RAGNAROK is Oculus Guitars take on the iconic German engineered modern high-gain preamp voice: a crushing, articulate distortion engine with DNA inspired by the legendary Diezel VH4, condensed into a pedal format without losing the authority, aggression, or control that made the original amp a modern classic.

At its core, the RAGNAROK is about precision under gain. It delivers the tight low end, focused upper-mid grind, and saturated harmonic density that define the VH4-style sound, but in a format built for pedalboards, recording setups, and players who want that unmistakable amp-like response without a full head and cabinet rig. This is not loose, fuzzy, or overly compressed distortion. Ragnarok is tuned for clarity, impact, and structure β€” the kind of gain that stays coherent through palm-muted riffing, complex chord voicings, and fast articulate lead work.

The voice is unapologetically modern, but not sterile. Expect a firm, percussive attack, deep controlled lows, aggressive yet polished mids, and enough top-end cut to sit forward in a mix without collapsing into fizzy harshness. The gain character is thick and saturated, but the note separation remains intact, giving Ragnarok that signature amp channel feel rather than the flatter texture of a conventional distortion box.

But the RAGNAROK is not limited to use as a front-end drive pedal. Its in-built PREAMP OUT functionality makes it equally at home as a serious and compact standalone preamp, allowing it to be used in more diverse ways and in various rig applications β€” straight into a power amp, into the effects return of an amplifier, or as part of a direct/recording-based setup with cabinet simulation or IR loading downstream. In this context, the RAGNAROK becomes more than a gain stage in a pedal: it acts as the core voice of your rig, delivering the feel and tonal identity of a dedicated and expensive high-gain boutique amp in a far more compact and economic format.

That flexibility makes the RAGNAROK especially useful for players. Run it into the front of a clean amp for a powerful VH4-inspired distortion voice, or use the preamp out in an FX loop to convert any amp into a monster.
