Vale Stewart Richardson McIver
It is with great sadness that the McIver family informs our community of the passing of our father, Stewart Richardson McIver, on 7th September 2026.
Stewart (Dad) passed peacefully into the hands of his Lord and Saviour, aged 86.
In 1986, Dad moved from the McIver Brothers Livestock Transport family business in Dalby - run alongside his brother Bruce, father Stan, and uncle Guy - and made Charters Towers his home. Here, he became a familiar and hardworking part of our town’s story. Over the years he owned and operated the Gold City Roadhouse, a local catering business, earthmoving equipment, Caltex, and later founded the Outback Pie Company, which continues today in Townsville.
A defining moment came in 2007, when Paul and Dad were overseas together. Paul said, “Dad, why don’t we buy some land and build a shed?” Dad thought quietly for half an hour and then replied, “I think I know where.” That simple moment of vision and certainty became the beginning of Goldtower on New Queen Road - now the Mitre 10 premises - and the foundation of what Goldtower has grown into today.
Dad will be deeply and continually missed by all of us.
