Last night's Paint and Sip had a bit of a theme. 🤠

A hens' night group came in for a private paint and sip with a difference, a cheeky cowboy, hat on, jeans on, shirt very much optional. Lots of laughs, a few wines, and twelve very different takes on the same guy by the end of the night.

Back in February, I painted this little Deane Street miner’s cottage in watercolour and ink. I loved its character, so naturally, I had to stop and paint it.

Then yesterday, driving home, I spotted a FOR SALE sign.

Well… obviously I had to swing around for another look! 😂

I got home, checked realestate.com.au and discovered that 18 Deane Street is now on the market with Gold City Realty It’s a charming two-bedroom cottage on 516m², right here in Charters Towers.

So you have options.

I’ll happily settle for knowing I painted it before the “For Sale” sign went up.

Term done. ✨

Today was the last primary art class for this term, and the theme was simple: something you love. Over nine weeks the children have had a real range on offer, sculpting, mixed materials, all sorts of techniques, and for this final class, they could choose anything in the room to work with.

What struck me was that with all that on offer, each child still went straight to what they loved (I know it was the theme after all). Some picked up graphite and sat quietly sketching. Others grabbed felt pens and just went for it. A few pulled out acrylic paints and canvas and got stuck into some little master pieces.

It's a good reminder for me teaching them too. Every child creates differently, and my job is to keep making room for that, whatever it looks like for them.

With some children moving on to sport and other activities next term, we have a few vacancies opening up in our primary classes. If your child's been wanting to give art a go, now's a good time to get in touch and register your interest for Term 4.

Can't wait for next term.

Last night's paint and sip turned into a magical one.

Everyone deep in concentration, and then one very confident crow turned up on someone's canvas and had the whole room in stitches.

Loved this one, birds taking flight against big open skies.

Gill Street this morning. 🔥

Overnight there was a fire at the old St Paul’s thrift shop, right next door to the Sovereign Hotel. By the time we got up there, the fire was out but the street was still full of steam and firefighters packing up their gear.

Thinking of everyone affected. We’ll share more as we know it.

✈️🎨 TAKE FLIGHT – SEPTEMBER PAINT & SIP 🎨✈️

This Friday night, we’re taking our brushes to the skies!

Join me in the studio for Take Flight — a relaxed painting inspired by wide-open skies, rolling country, birds in flight and that wonderful feeling of freedom you get when you look up. 💙

You don’t need to know how to paint. I’ll guide you through the process step by step, and you’ll create your own version to take home.

Come on your own, bring a friend, or come and meet some new people. There’ll be plenty of laughs, creativity and a few hours where you can simply switch off and enjoy yourself.

What happens when you pull the next layer? 👀🎨

The Tuesday night Studio Sessions have been a wealth of learning over the past couple of months: experimenting, trying new techniques, making happy accidents. And this block discovering just how much you can do with gel printing.

This is a student’s print that I pulled the next morning. The first layer was created using ‘Wrangler jeans’, then we added an image from her own house, with an old dead tree and a horse in the background.

I love how these prints evolve. You start with an idea, add a layer, pull the print… and sometimes the result takes you somewhere completely unexpected.

That’s what I love about our Studio Sessions, we’re learning together, experimenting together and seeing where the art takes us.💛
