Recently I made some ceramic jars and used them to test new glazes. I originally made these jars to store things in the kitchen but now I think they are too pretty to be left in the cupboard.
They are a good way to serve condiments at the table. I have sat them on a small plate next to a spoon to serve relish and they looked great.
I find pottery jars very appealing at the moment. Maybe because they remind me of an old fashioned way of storing food that is no longer used. I think I have a childhood memory of mustard and olives being stored in jars.
I glazed this jar with Mayco's Stoneware Blue Splatterware and combined it with a blue and white transfer pattern.
I fired in an electric kiln to cone 9 so I was a bit worried the blue speckles would run and blur too much. I didn't need to worry because the blue specks stayed nicely defined and the glaze had little movement. There was no pinholes or blisters so I was very pleased with the result.
I will be using this glaze again because I like the way it works with the blue and white transfer patterns.
