Going that extra mile....
We often have comments from visitors stating how clean our shop is. I think it must have something to do with how particular we are. It certainly adds to the extra outside hours spent washing linen, toys and some of the clothing, we steam clothes too.
We love receiving clean, good quality donations!!!
Our job list:
We wash clothes and linen if they are only lightly soiled and we feel are worthy. If they are really soiled they usually go to rag recycling. We are very fussy about the linen!
We wash some sneakers in the washing machine, only if they are good quality, some shoes are polished. We wash toys, soft toys in the washing machine. We only sell clean toys. They might just need a dust or a wipe over with a wet cloth (plenty of them).
The dolls are given a complete makeover with fresh clean clothing and hair restyled, we care greatly and even have dedicated volunteers to make it their business to revive items.
Batteries are checked to make sure toys work. If battery toys have no battery in them, we put batteries in to make sure they work and then put a notice on them about needing x amount and type of batteries.
All this takes extra work, but we like to think that it makes our shop a little different, and it helps with smells too. We usually put linen through the sniff test.
Sometimes there might be linen or clothes with only a spot on them, and if they are really nice then we clean them. Recently we washed some nice kids dresses. We soak a lot of things in Vanish to get marks off them, then we just rinse and dry.
Some toys and clothes are mended if they are worthy.
