Big thank you to everyone who came by yesterday to help our little bookstore celebrate Love Your Bookshop day!
This year we celebrated with author and illustrator Simon Howe | Children's Book Author-Illustrator . A huge thanks to Simon and Winnie who drove an hour and gave up a Saturday visiting our bookstore for our event. The kids all loved the story-time and drawing activity.
Another huge thanks to the multiple chapters from Tough Guy Book Club who came by yesterday in the morning and afternoon, and to Ben for bringing in a coffee to start the day!
Thanks to Walker Books Australia for the Where’s Wally activity, the kids had lots of fun looking forward to Wally! All badges were claimed but we still have some certificates left so we will keep Wally hidden till they are all claimed. Thanks also to Libro.fm Audiobooks for our Golden ticket! Penguin Books Australia we added some extra penguins in our window for you this year! 😉
Thanks to everyone who made it a very busy day! We have plenty of books, cards and gifts so please keep supporting your local businesses and shop local!

We have Frankie Gritton joining us on Saturday 17th October at 11am for a fun hour of storytelling and an activity to follow! ‘A House Made of Books’ is the debut picture book by author-illustrator Frankie Gritton, published Lady Bird Books.

But when Simon’s house made of books comes tumbling down, his friends and neighbours come together to rebuild his home – bigger and stronger than ever before.

Our local chapter of Tough Guy Book Club will be visiting the store early on Saturday morning. Tough Guy Book Club is a network of more than 190 men’s book clubs that meet in local pubs across Australia and beyond. At 11am we are very excited to have a story-time and craft event with author and illustrator Simon Howe | Children's Book Author-Illustrator
Simon is the author and illustrator of one of our favourite picture books ‘The House That Walked Away’ published by Hardie Grant Children’s Publishing . It also happened to be the inspiration for our book week costume at home! So I was very excited when Simon accepted our invitation to come to the bookstore for an event! Our 9yr old also took home the award for best costume in his class! Which is now a feature in our window!

We also have a number of competitions running throughout the day!

Walker Books Australia have joined the fun with a Where’s Wally hunt, find Wally and collect a prize.

Penguin Books Australia have returned this year again with another penguin figurine which will make a late arrival. To enter purchase any two Penguin books on the day.

Thames & Hudson Australia this year are giving away a free copy of the game ‘At the Bookshop’ when you purchase 2 titles from T&H.

Letterwing Australia is Hachette Australia Books Hachette Australia’s dedicated local imprint, who have generously provided an ABA $1000 gift card to raffle off. Love Your Bookshop Kids’ Colouring Competition is back, kids can colour in the bookish scenes on the page, then use the blank space to draw their very own perfect bookshop. 3 x $100 ABA gift cards to be won!

Our September Bookclub is meeting on Thursday 17th September at Big Elma - Brunch, Catering and Events ✨ at 6:30-7:30pm discussing ‘Whistler’ by Ann Patchett, join us for a casual chat and glass of w**e and shared nibbles. Tickets are available in-store, on our website or via the link in our bio.

School Holidays start on Monday 21st in Victoria!
Sorry have not organised any events for this holidays. 🫠

I’ll be taking a short break from the shop over the long weekend in September, but Cindy will be in on the Saturday if you're not interested in the football...the bookstore will be open from 10am-3pm.

An evening with Moreno Giovannoni discussing his second book ‘The Immigrants’ which is winner of the Fiction Prize in the 2026 Age Book of the Year Awards and winner of the Christina Stead Prize for Fiction at the 2026 NSW Premier’s Literary Awards. It is also shortlisted for the Prime Minister’s Literary Awards 2026 which will be announced on September 10th 2026.

Thank you to Helen Politis for leading the discussion last night and to Ellie Big Elma - Brunch, Catering and Events ✨ for hosting our event.

It was a lovely evening spent discussing the life of immigrants who have come to Australia in search of the better life. And here we are, examples of immigration from Greece, Italy and Vietnam. Immigration has changed and enriched our lives and community.

And lastly thank you to all who attended our event last night. Thank you for supporting your local author and small businesses.

Last night….with Moreno Giovannoni and Helen Politis at Big Elma

Discussing The Immigrants, an award winning book with local author Moreno Giovannoni @ local cafe The Big Elma, hosted by local bookseller Pictures and Pages. The book explores the post war migrant experience of Australia, who all came for a better life and perhaps did not find it. It was a warm and stimulating discussion on topics that are very current. It was also lovely to have some good blokes come along. Special thanks to Ellie from Big Elma and Lien from Pictures and Pages. I look forward to more of these special events. I love these locals their service to community is priceless. ♥️

Flower subscription available from Olive&Eve

Olive and Eve are located on Sydney Road in Brunswick where the current tram works are located, so business has been almost at a standstill still with the road closed to cars and very limited foot traffic.
To support another small business we have signed up to a weekly flower subscription, you can choose weekly, fortnightly or monthly. Delivered free to your door within 10km from the Brunswick or Coburg studios.
