It’s about time I properly introduced myself and shared what’s been happening with Mischief & Mayhem Hobbies since it changed hands and moved last year.
For those who don’t know, I’m Rob, and I accidentally bought a hobby store. I walked in to buy a battery and walked out with a business. That’s one serious upsell! As a hobbyist since I was a kid, I couldn’t stand the thought of the only hobby store for hundreds of kilometers shutting down - so here we are, working to build a place that supports RC hobbyists in our region and keep it growing.
Honestly, I’m really glad I did. It’s been a blast meeting so many amazing people, seeing your builds, hearing your stories, and being part of something that clearly means so much to the hobby community.
The previous owner put in a lot of work to support local hobbyists, and we’re committed to carrying that forward - growing the local scene and making it easier to get into RC & models, whether it’s cars, boats, planes, trains, rockets, or something else.
There’s been a lot happening behind the scenes. It’s taken time to set up, relocate to a better space in Tewantin, and figure out how to make this work after hours - while staying fully committed to my full-time job. The goal hasn’t changed: to give local RC enthusiasts a place to get parts, repairs, and advice without waiting on long shipping times or driving hours just to maybe find what they need.
Right now, we’re focused on finishing the shop space and e-store, securing more suppliers, and making sure we can offer the best range possible. We’ve learned a lot already and know there’s still so much more to uncover, which is why we’re always happy to listen and learn from seasoned experts in different areas.
We’ve had incredible support from suppliers, clubs, other hobby stores, and our customers. A massive thank you to everyone that’s supported our mission so far. Without you we wouldn’t be here - and in turn, we wouldn’t be able to keep supporting the local hobby community. We’re already talking with clubs and looking at options for tracks and spaces where people can run their machines, meet up, and enjoy the hobby, so stay tuned - or naturally let us know if you want to help.
Whether you’re a casual hobbyist, a parent buying for the kids or grandkids, or just getting into RC and models, we’d love to meet you and hear what you need. The more people get behind us, the more we can offer the community in return!
