Learn to Turn at Corrimal High School semester 1 2026 was completed last Saturday. Another amazing group where we had lots of laughs, plenty of fun and they completed some really great projects.

learn to Turn semester 2 at Corrimal High starts on Saturday 9th May and runs for 10 Saturday mornings which is 30 hours of guided woodturning.

This Saturday 18th April we will be at Corrimal Hobby Timber 9:00am to 12:30pm where you can see some of semester 2 projects participants will be completing and ask questions about "Learn to Turn" or the woodwork joinery courses available at Corrimal High on Saturday and Five Islands College (Port Kembla) on Fridays coordinated by Five Islands WOODTEC.

Making shavings hit the floor.

Learn to Turn Saturday mornings at Corrimal High.

Participants are into the "create your own projects" during the final weeks of Learn to Turn after becoming confident with cutting techniques for spindle, bowl and mandrel turning. You can see their enjoyment as the tools are doing the work not "chasing" the cut.

Again, we have a great group with everyone looking to expand on what has been doing and looking at setting up a home workshop for turning.

The short video. This participant grew in confidence very quickly. He was looking for a challenge making a deep bowl. I had a block of River Red Gum and advised it will be "hard" work but worth the effort with its stunning dark red interlocking grain.

The bowl was finished yesterday but the video is of making the roughing down cuts with a 19mm bowl gouge - Perfectly.

Semester 2 there are vacancies for the after-lunch group 12:30 to 3:30 for 10 weeks.

To all our existing and new visitors to our store.

We make everyone welcome and ensure to provide a safe and enjoying experience. It is important we acknowledge that Corrimal Hobby Timber is a part of PCA Furniture - an operational joinery where a purpose built timber display area has been constructed and customers are assisted with advice and product selection.

Corrimal Hobby Timber is not and will never be a "BUNNINGS" type operation.

We all understand that on street parking in Ruddock street Monday-Friday can be challenging so PCA gate entry has been reconfigured offering off street parking.

On occasions PCA has been approached by woodworking clubs/NSW Education department enquiring about group visits.

Where it doesn't impede current operations it is possible at the discretion of PCA and for this to happen site protocols are put in place including increasing PCA staff to assist and manage safety for the visitors.

Any enquiries regarding group visits contact us first so we can make it be an enjoyable event.

Hand Plane Restoring, Tuning and Sharpening.

We previously held Saturday workshops all about getting the best out of your hand plane.

Bring in Grand Dads old Stanley No4 and its disassembled, cleaned, fettled (getting everything straight and flat), sharpened to "Scary Sharp" reassembled and tuned to cut shavings that float to the floor.

One of the most accurate woodworking tools you can own.

Photos attached are of a Sigley No4 that is around 110 years old. This plane was re finished and looks great and works perfectly.

If we get enough interest, we start running Hand Plane Restoring, Tuning and Sharpening on Saturdays from 8:30 till 2:30.

If interested, please send me a direct message.
