Giro Bike - 2026 Cervelo R5 56 SRAM FORCE AXS

This week of the Giro focuses on the big climbing stages. The third last stage will approach 5000vm of climbing, before culminating in a double ascent of Piancavallo in the Southern Dolomites for the second last stage. Some 17,000 - 18,000 vm in the last week!

Cervelo R5 is built for a week like this one.

Why is this bike so good? This bike weighs in at a smidge over 6kg. Yes you read that right it is “Light AF”

However it's not just how light they are for climbing. These bikes handle like no other bike when descending. The feeling is just incredible.

Let’s Talk - Winter is Coming - Is your bike winter ready

We have had some of the most satisfying riding days during winter. Just because it's colder and a little damp, doesn't mean you should park the bike for the next 3 months.

We want you to be safe so let’s go through the key points to consider.

❓ Our number one consideration would be - Tyres. Rain and wetter roads tend to wash glass or the like into riding lines and increase the likelihood of punctures. So a big focus on tyres is required. Don’t just check your tread and the wear markers. Check for cuts. Let your tyres down and check the sides for cracking. Any evidence is a sign to change your tyres in prep for Winter.

❓ Our next point is Drivetrain & L**e. Check your chain for stretch and your cassette/chainrings for wearing. Look for unevenness of your cassette and chainring teeth. Its also an opportunity to review your l**e choice. Perhaps run an all weather l**e during the wetter months. Typically we don’t require a heavy duty wet l**e in Melbourne, unless you are riding in torrential conditions.

❓ Lastly, but definitely not least is - Brakes. What state are my rim brakes or disc brake pads? Do I have enough pad? Will they pull me up when I need them to stop? How thick are my rotors? Is my rim brake braking surface concave and worn.

If there is any doubt in these three areas, then you have to ask whether you will be safe enough.

This Week at CCW - 25 May 2026

We love riding at this time of the year. Cool, crisp mornings with amazing sunny afternoons. Great riding before winter hits. If the weather is dismal, there is always indoor riding.

Now this week the Giro concludes its three week journey. Look forward to the higher mountains of the northern regions. We had some great breakaway stages, exciting racing plus we saw the mighty mountain top finishes. We think Vinegaard is well place on his Cervelo. Hopefully he is standing on the top step with his Cervelo R5..

CCW Friday Pick Up Series - Steve D

Steve D has been a long time friend, ambassador and supporter of Croydon Cycleworks.

Now it's time for something a little different.

Steve’s wheel house is definitely off road, mainly in the MTB/eMTB space. An owner of multiple MTB and now eMTB over the journey, Steve is most comfortable in the unpredictable world of trails.

However a recent trip to the Sunshine State, which will become more regular for him, it showed Steve that most of the great fitness based riding there is on the tarmac. While there on his Cannondale Lab71 Scalpel HT, he did manage to sit in on many a road wheel (much to the roadies disgust), however he felt a road bike would be a much better option.

He sighted the Platinum coloured SuperSix Evo HiMod 1 in store and immediately knew this was the solution for his northern state riding. What a choice!
