This year, we celebrate 160 years of Dandenong Market.
Since 1866, we've been at the heart of community life, bringing people together to meet, shop and connect through food and culture ๐๐โจ
In 1950, local newspaper The Argus declared of the Market that "there's nothing that can't be sold at Dandenong."
More than 75 years on, the sentiment still rings true.
The sounds of the livestock and cattle yards from our earliest days have given way to shop shutters rattling open at dawn, the hiss of coffee machines greeting early morning shoppers, produce aisles buzzing with activity, and traders spruiking their final offers as another market day draws to a close.
But our soul remains the same.
We're still the place to find unique and hard-to-find ingredients, quality produce, and international foods you won't find at the supermarket or corner store. A genuine melting pot of cultures and cuisines.
To mark this special anniversary, we've created a mini-documentary celebrating the people who bring the Market to life every day.
Featuring the stories of trader Susan Bell from Dandee Donuts, tour guide and chef Tim Hollands, and Allison Smith, Chair of the Board, the film is a tribute to the Market's enduring spirit and the community that continues to shape its future.
