Last stop & we loved it!
The apartment was beautiful hygge style, friendly young team & fabulous position.

We walked & walked … down to the arts area in the docks & beautiful modern opera house, through the city & Frederiks Kirche & the changing of the guard. Out to Grundsvig Kirche (a 1930/40s church which was overwhelming in its simplicity & beauty), the cherry blossom walk in a garden nearby & Frederiksberg gardens. The Danish Design Museum was also fascinating.

Found some lovely eateries close to the apartment was a favourite for oysters & wine after big walks & a gorgeous French bistro.

Copenhagen is such a lovely city, so much to see, look out for the bicycles! And everyone we chatted to just loves living in the city & we can see why!

Lago d’Orta, Piedmont, Italy 🇮🇹
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
An incredible few days high on Lago d’Orta - the “Cinderella” of Italy’s lakes according to some writers, quieter & quite beautiful.
We were just up from Orta San Guilio a delightful & peaceful hotel which is the creation of architect brothers Gian Carlo & Matteo Primatesta who live in the area. The views are just incredible - sparkling lake, fresh green grapevines, misty layers of blue mountains & a snowy alps peak behind on clear days. The sounds of the village below drift up - roosters, local football practice & the beautiful church bells.
The restaurant (Chef Matteo Monfrinotti & his young team including Federica who was very kind, helpful & fun) is just fabulous combining simple design & terrific food & wine. The risotto was honestly the best I’ve ever eaten!
There is also a bar on the terrace with couches & tables facing the lake view & settled in the beautiful gardens - a drink here early evening is a must & Filippo mixes a fab Margherita!
There is plenty to do in Orta San Giulio & around the lake. With Isola San Giulio a short boat ride & housing a convent with an order of nuns still in residence, Sacro Monte a hill covered in 20 or so chapels all telling the story of St Francis of Assisi & the village itself is lovely to potter around with lots of wisteria in full bloom during our stay. Around the other side of the lake was a church perched high on a rocky outcrop - sanctuario della madonna del sasso - worth it just for the incredible views of the lake & Omegna a little village right at the northern end of the lake.
So lovely to discover this beautiful corner of Italy - the peace & natural beauty so good for the soul ❤️ 🇮🇹
Sud Tyrol ~ Brunico/Bruneck
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Into the beautiful Sud Tyrol mountains, near the border with Austria & a few beautiful days in Brunico. Staying at where Kathrin & Helmuth have treated the 700 year-old foundations with care & retained the character of the more recent work which introduced a more Art Nouveau character. They have also intertwined simple modern elements in their renovation with beautiful original timber floors & the gorgeous stairs. Only 8 rooms each with its own character - Widum was just a delight, quiet with birdsong in the mornings & afternoons & fabulous mountain views.

Each morning breakfast is a very personal experience with something special each day - sitting in the sunshine with a coffee, croissant, homemade jams & a different homemade juice each day. Chatting about the day’s plans with Kathrin.

Our days were filled with morning walks village to village, church to church, observing the daily farming rituals & cows in the big barns - whilst surrounded by mountain landscape of great beauty. In the afternoons we explored Brunico.

A special evening meal in the striking residence of the Moessmer Wool Milling company - this is a fabulous collaboration in so many ways. The surroundings & food were special & the young team were a delight.

The area is surrounded by a multitude of ski & toboggan runs just above Brunico - definitely worth returning in Winter!

Asolo, Veneto 🇮🇹
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our first visit to Asolo was 30 years ago & the idea for eCasa (or Ex Libris) first formed here after visiting a local antiques market & wandering the arch-covered streets& shops. We have returned regularly over the years because we love this village!
This visit we stayed at Albergo Al Sole a gorgeous hotel sitting just above the main piazza & with spectacular views of the village of Asolo & the hills beyond. is run by two sisters Silvia & Elena (since 1996) - their attention to detail & generosity with suggestions & information for guests added to the beautiful rooms ( #102 has a delightful little balcony & views to die for), breakfast & dinner/drinks on the terrace at La Terrazza (their restaurant) just make this an amazing stay!
Asolo is close to many of Palladio’s most beautiful villas (Villa Barbaro pictured), Antonio Canova’s birthplace & museum (sculptures, paintings & the most wonderful garden) & Carlo Scarpa’s Tomba Brion. It’s also just an hour’s drive to Venice’s Marco Polo airport for day visits to Venice & an easy drive to Vicenza & Padua.
We’ll be back!
Travel Diaries ….
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Our first of a series of travel diaries with stories from our very favourite places to celebrate our life post eCasa - bringing to life the best of our life with eCasa & now after eCasa!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our first visit to al Gatto Nero was more than 20 years ago … tricky now to remember how & why but we would branch out from our search for vintage European wares for eCasa to enjoy a lovely lunch together & on Burano we found a lifetime favourite!
Chef Ruggero Bovo founded this beautiful family establishment in 1965 with his wife Lucia & they were both in the kitchen today! (and Ruggero was happy today to have his pic with Jo ❤️).
Today son Massi (an Italian with a gorgeous Scots accent!) heads the operation & directs the day from the greeting at the colourful front door to the final grappa!
From our first visit the menu of ONLY fresh seafood from the Venice lagoon totally captured us (Queenslanders who could live on seafood alone!)
We started today with the Vongoli Mista (a mixture of shellfish) followed by Taglioni with fresh crab & then Grilled Sea Bream & Sole. All incredible…
The care & generosity of Massi & his team shines through every time & we cannot recommend a visit more highly!
Recently, we have parked at Marco Polo airport & caught a water taxi to Burano & back - being on the water on a blue sunny day literally can bring a tear to the eye! But if you are staying in Venice - catch the Vaporetto to Burano - it is the island of the multi-coloured houses!
Be sure to book your table & plan to spend the whole afternoon!
