The Southern Art and Craft Trail is on again with artists across the region opening their doors to visitors.

Among them is Denmark artist Carol Ann O’Connor who said it was a great opportunity to support and encourage local artists.

Her work titled the Protector of the Potoroo was featured on this year’s guide.

“That painting took me seven months to paint it,” she said.

“Each original painting gets an original decorated frame and that took a month.”

Congratulations to Carol Ann O'Connor Sister's of Eve Art Gallery , this years Southern Art + Craft Trail booklet cover artist with her new artwork "Protector of the Potoroo". Carol was last years "Best Exhibitor " award winner. This award is kindly sponsored by Regional Development Australia Great Southern WA

Carols says " I had not long finished last year's Art Trail and was ready to start a new painting but, I was struggling to get started. Then, I had a couple of visitors to the gallery who were on their way to Albany to attend a conference on endangered species. Because of my painting of the Noisy Scrub Bird we talked about HRH Prince Philip's involvement of saving the Two People's Bay area and how, in saving the habitat of this little bird he also saved the Gilbert's Potoroo. When they told me that the Gilbert's Potoroo was the most endangered animal in Australia I said, maybe I should do a painting featuring the Potoroo. Normally I do not plan my paintings, preferring to allow them to develop as I work but, as soon as I spoke those words, the image appeared in my mind. So my new painting highlights the need to protect our precious animals and, in an effort to raise awareness of this special creature, I will donate a portion of the selling price of each print to the Gilbert's Potoroo Action Group. "

A huge thank you to my visitors and buyers over the last couple of weeks, your encouragement and support is so gratefully appreciated.
With two large and, two smaller embellished and framed prints selling in the past week I have been able to fill their spaces with new work.
I collected a new piece from my framer yesterday. The Weaver is Fine Art Print embellished with antique mirror-backed crystals and Swarovski crystals, with an original hand-painted design on the mount board.
Many thanks to the lovely Ebony from Gallery Works for the beautiful framing

Gallery Works in Albany produces all my lovely frames. Ebony and I have been working together, for the past 6 months, just getting work ready for the ArtSouth WA and the Southern Art & Craft Trail .
Each week I would take work to her and bring some home.
This is the process .........
Deliver prints to be mounted. Choose the colour of the mount board and decide which frame suits best.
Following week collect mounted prints to take back to the gallery to work on, leave more prints and again choose mount and frame.
That week work at setting stones in to print and creating a decorative border on the mount.
Following week, repeat the process.
